Very nice buck! Most young hunters start by knocking down a doe and he drops a what, 9 or 10 pointer? How old is the boy?
He is 9 and it's a 10 point. My son has taken many 8,10,12's and says he gets more enjoyment out of others taking a nice buck. He is waiting for a 200+ to show up and stated that's a tall order for free range deer.

Nice, good on him for sharing the enjoyment! I'm getting to the age where I'll let some nice ones pass if I know a young hunter is in a spot to see it later

Rifle season opens today and I'm at my mom's farm. She says there are two really big ones running around here so hopefully I'll get one. This little six pointer came to visit for awhile. We only get one buck tag a year and I already put a doe in the freezer so he is safe for now!

We only get a buck up here basically 25 doe permits for probably 60000 tags.

Man, that's really strange. KDFWR practically begs us to take does, especially in CWD counties. In some eastern counties with low deer populations you can't take does with a rifle, but its one buck per hunter per season statewide regardless of method.

Been few years in mn with intensive harvest then years after that back to bucks only or draw a doe tag since then in the northern part of state. Some of the southern areas have 2-4 deer limits but that’s more in farm country.

I can harvest 5 deer on the statewide bag limit in my corner of MN, and also “unlimited” deer during the special CWD hunts, if I want. Disease Management tags are only $2.50 each and we can use them at any time during any season.

Went hunting yesterday evening with my trusty Winchester 94. This rifle has a Williams FP receiver sight and is always dead on at 80 yards with my favorite load, I sighted it in again just on Monday. Last night I missed an easy broadside 50 yard shot at a doe. Twice. Yes, she gave me two chances and I failed both times. Searched the area for 2.5 hours and found absolutely no blood, hair, nothing. The 94 goes back in the safe and out come the scoped Marlins for tomorrow and probably every other deer season of my life.

I'll shoot the rifle again when I get a chance to see if it's still shooting straight but I can just about guarantee it is, and I'm just not a good marksman as usual. Mebbe somebody would be interested in trading me a 336 Texan or a Henry .30-30 for the 94...

Last deer I killed was a running doe with my 94 Winchester my grandfather bought new in 1952. I got it with the original box of shells because he killed 2 deer with it and bought a surplus 30-06 shortly after. Mines in 32 Winchester special so only one load that I’ve seen which is 170 grain.

Nice gun, and a keeper for sure. If I keep the 94 I'll just use it for general woods stomping and varmints. I really don't think there is anything wrong with the rifle and it has always shot well on the range. I'm just on the short bus as far as marksmanship goes and need all the help I can get.

I’ve found that using a crossbow has improved my gun accuracy because it teaches you to shoot without flinching.
