Much as I hate to admit it, this recent incident has proven that using sights on a deer rifle just leaves too much room for error with my eyesight and (lack of) marksmanship. Sport Optics currently has free shipping, sales tax, and PRW rings with Leupold scopes so I went ahead and ordered a VX-Freedom 1-4x20 with Pig Plex reticle for the Henry .45-70. I already have compact Leupolds on my Marlin .30-30's and they do great. Best buck I ever took was with a little Weaver 3x atop a Marlin and I managed to place the round exactly where it needed to go. The PRW rings by themselves are like $60.00 so if you are looking for a new Leupold this is a great deal.

I just stick with the cheapo Tasco/Bushnell. I haven't had a problem with them. I use a flat shooting .243 tack driver as well. My goal is to always place a shot well. I can't bring myself to pull the trigger until I'm certain of a good hit. It's zeroed at 200yds to ensure maximum flatness over maximum range, so I don't have to think about elevation. I thought about tweaking it up to 250yds to get the farthest reaching trajectory within what I call flat, but that's pushing it, and I wouldn't knowingly take a shot past 300yds anyway since I'm not that steady of a shot.
