I've bought a few $3-400 running ones. They weren't pretty by no means. They do function.

I didn't post the asking price because, who knows, the seller might be a member here and might be upset if I posted pictures of his saw and his asking price. But, I'll happily give the people what they're asking for.

The saw was originally listed at $750, then relisted a few days later for $650. He's holding firm there, but was willing meet me part way here. As far as I know, there's no extra goodies included.

I'm not in a real active logging area, but there is a few operations within a hundred miles of me. Not like the west coast, by any means. Seems like there's usually one or two big saws on Craigslist within an hour of need, sometimes a couple more, sometimes none at all. To the best of my knowledge the typical logging saw in this area is a 90cc saw with a 20" bar, so they're here, but not real common. It seems like most of them are well used work saws that people doll up and then list for $800. Personally I'd like to have something that's very good mechanically, but I don't mind if it's ugly.

I'd like to own an 066 or a 660 someday, although I wouldn't mind trying a husky. It's certainly not a need. I'm going to send my ms460 to tree monkey this fall, so that should keep me smiling for a while. Honestly, I just want an oversized bucking saw for cutting large rounds of firewood and for making it more fun for my buddies to come cut wood. I'd like be able to run a 36" bar if I ever need to, but it'll be rare. Maybe after i pinch pennies for a while, I'll post a wanted ad here for a bigger saw.

Thanks again for all the input, and sorry for the "secrecy", I just didn't want to upset anyone.

Ryan

Man you guys are the best!! I seriously feel so lucky to be here.

I work every day with my dad, who's 66. He's never used the internet, and when he needs something, he goes to the store and finds a salesman to help him. I'm just tickled at the incredible resources that the internet makes available. Seriously, how incredible is it that some of the most knowledgeable saw builders and users in the country are here hanging out on the interwebs, willing to help out perfect strangers?! Another example: I make maple syrup as part of my income. The best forum (arguably) is mapletrader.com. Dr. Tim Perkins is a regular contributor. He's one of the absolute leading minds in the industry and works for the U of Vermont Proctor Maple Research Center. Just incredible to be able to chat with him. You guys too.

Mr. Moobs, sir, a PM shall be scented shortly!!!

It's regional as well. Don't know the market in Wisconsin but in Oregon 066/660's pop up for sale almost everyday. Paid 300$ for the last one, had some cosmetic challenges but was mechanically perfect. I don't think id have to pay more than 500$ for a good one with some patience.

I picked up my 066 for $300 as well...however, I jumped on that quickly from CList....they don't get posted that cheaply very often. Wasn't the prettiest saw, chain brake didn't work...but just needed a good cleaning.

I think $450 or so would be a good ballpark number for the one you are looking at.

I'm in River Falls. It's pretty close to Minneapolis/St Paul. I'm scaling up a little bit at a time. This year I'll put out about 500 taps. Mostly on vacuum. If you think chainsaws are addictive, try making syrup!

Can I bid too?
:monoloco:lol

:)

Yes please!!

So far, no one has hit the price that the seller is "firm" at. I think I'm gonna save my money for when someone sells a ported 90cc here or on as. I think I'd rather swallow the shipping cost and get something that is really sweet from someone who is known to be a grape smeller.

Thanks, guys!
That was the best decision you made all day. Money well spent. "Never be afraid to buy the best. You will always be happy with it." Not my quote

I have a well worn 066 flat top, it's even ported. I'd let it go for 500.00 with shipping included. I don't have an extra bar to include though.
That's-a no brainer :chainsaw:

Is it Mark?

I figure I shouldn't post other folks last names without them knowing about it. Also, about 50% of the sugar makers I know near me are named Mark. If he lives on hwy 29, though and has a big green leaf sign in his driveway, I know the guy. Real nice feller.

It could be his dad, the guy I work with is in his mid 20's. They work together doing sap.

I'm pretty small time too at 500 taps. I got a new cooker this year, though, which is very exciting. I was using a 2x10 which would boil off about 65-70 gallons of sap per hour. The new one is a 4x14. It'll do about 200 gph. There's plenty of cookers bigger than mine, but it's pretty good size. It'll burn about a third of a cord per hour, maybe a little more if I'm using mostly softwood. Some of the really big rigs will burn a full cord in an hour!!rps20160911_073145_556.jpg I'm really stoked to get it set up for next year.
