Hey everyone, this is my first post here. I see a lot of familiar names. Seems like a great site. I'm more of a lurker over at as, but I've really enjoyed learning a lot from everyone here and over there. Of course there is the matter of you guys convincing me I need all these saws, but i should let my wife bring that up with you if she'd like. :)

Anyway, I'm considering an 066. Tell me what you think. It's a half wrap, not west coast saw. Seller says it's all original, not a lot of use. Compression is at 140. How much would you give for it? Pics aren't loading, I'll try in a reply to this thread.

Compression seems a little low, but that would run about 450-5 around my neck of the woods.

Ok, the 066/MS660 saws go for about $600 around here. Saws with long bars go for more. Not sure what bar is on this saw.
I'd want to know the condition of the piston. The piston pic doesn't really show anything usable.
If it needs to be shipped, that needs to be taken into account.
That's a later model 066. The last of the 066 saws were essentially identical to the MS660 (plastic flywheel, etc)
The MS660 was selling for about $1100-$1200 when they were discontinued.

If you zoom in it looks like some scoring on piston starting just above the floor of the exhaust. Need more info!

Thanks you guys! I really appreciate the quick responses!

I thought the same thing about the piston picture. Seller says no scoring.

Seller is willing to meet me about 25 minutes from my home, but it is a bit more of a drive for him. Neither of us wants to waste our time, so if I go, I'll basically be buying the saw unless I feel something was misrepresented. The seller is being completely straightforward about everything as far as i can tell.

He's also not negotiable on the price at this point. Unfortunately, I wish it was lower. The $450-500 range sounds pretty good to me, but maybe that's bit unrealistic around here. It's got a 28" bar and a chain included.

I'd buy that for $450, but I have a disease called CAD.

Prices must have come down quite a bit. I thought clean 066's were $750 saws.

The usual suspect for low compression that makes no sense is a bad comp tester. But I'd wanna see that entire piston. Unless it's really scored, it should be higher.

If it's 90* with 100% humidity by you, as it is here, it can throw the reading off more than you would think.

Absolutely correct.
140 wouldn't bother me, testers are very inconsistent, low compression is a cheap fix but I bet it's fine.

@Ryan Browne , Try the Upload a file button at the lower right instead of the one above for loading pictures. As far as what that saw is worth, think of where you are at geographically, not many people are going to be willing to shell out much money for a saw that size. Most folks here would call that an old landing saw, and want no part of it. Doesn't matter what you want to do with it, it's what everybody else around you would do with it, that sets the price. I would start pretty low and not be too anxious. You can always work your way up a bit.

Insert sarcastic tone here...If you are buying only $450 if you're selling $750. The guy isn't even trying to get top $, where's the pristine Chinese $10 clutch cover. And that hideous worn out handle, either polish that thing out or get a sharpie, for the love.

Well with that out of the way, how much is he asking for it? Looks like a pretty well cared for used saw that would probably fetch $500-600 around here if it was mechanically sound. I agree looks like a hint of scoring, could be a bit of carbon, but that wouldn't bother me much.

Piston is 40$
Around here you couldn't sell it,everyone buys new saws but on a saw forum and ported strong they bring 800 to 1000
If they run and look good.
I've sold a few for a 1000 and wouldn't think twice about giving 450 or 500,I like to double my money when I can.

Can I bid too?

:)

Yes please!!

So far, no one has hit the price that the seller is "firm" at. I think I'm gonna save my money for when someone sells a ported 90cc here or on as. I think I'd rather swallow the shipping cost and get something that is really sweet from someone who is known to be a grape smeller.

Thanks, guys!

I've never seen a $450 MS660 or 066 in these parts. That was not the asking price for the saw (which has not been stated)

I have two MS660 saws. I wouldn't let either one of them leave my yard for less than $600. I've sold an MS660 for $600, an MS650 for $550 and an 066 about the same vintage as the OP's but more tired looking by far for $600. That 066 had a well worn but usable 32" Stihl bar on it.
In my opinion, if the saw starts, runs, idles, oils and the chain brake is functional, $600 would be fair. Less would be better of course if he's buying. Having cash in hand is always useful.
Look for cracks in the handle's bottom, any damage such as oversize screws, etc.
Any parts can be acquired for this saw.
Ask the seller where the rubber plug is that covers the carb screws? (negotiating point) There's supposed to be one there... Also, the pics on AS were only part of the story. Make sure to look it over very well.

OP, why not just post up the asking price? If it's stupid, we'll let you know.
If he's asking more than $700, that's wishful thinking. If it's in the $700 range, he may find a buyer for it at that price. It would have to be excellent and not just ok (including bar/chain condition)
Are there extras? ie, more bars, spare chains, files, owner's manual, scrench, spare parts. etc.

It's regional as well. Don't know the market in Wisconsin but in Oregon 066/660's pop up for sale almost everyday. Paid 300$ for the last one, had some cosmetic challenges but was mechanically perfect. I don't think id have to pay more than 500$ for a good one with some patience.

I was a little confused by the secrecy of the price as well.

In much of the country, the 90 plus cc saw is a rare animal. There's not many of them for sale and due to the ole supply/demand thing, prices run higher. Although they're much less likely to have all their life squeezed out of them.
