My tiny tach bit the dust (rain). Suprized more suppliers are not carrying these type tools.

I was thinking about a tiny tach just hoping to find a site sponsor that had one. I contacted the "gentleman" they don't carry them.

when I researched them I "think" I remember that the tiny tach does not sync properly with the 261, 441, 461, 362, 661 and other saws with the more complicated pole pieces on the flywheels including all of the flywheels for use with generators for heated handles, that is why we carry the EDT7 as opposed to the EDT8 which is faster but also less accurate with the complex flywheels, also like the longer wireless range on the EDT7 and the wired or wireless capability if you do need faster response for some reason
Dave
just my 7.5 cents (inflation ya know)

sold out, I get them three at a time and that lasts a week or two normally, but Stihl Germany and all the distributers are in inventory mode right now so restocking from Stihl is super slow

That is interesting, I had not heard that. Now I'm gonna have to get the wired tach out for my 261 and 441, and recheck them. Is it kind of like an intermittent thing, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't?

Just checked my ms261 ms441 and my dolmar 6100, with this tach (got this tach off ebay for 12.99 with free shipping)

The tiny tach was within 100 - 150 rpm difference.

Thanks for looking. You must have just sold your last because I had one in my cart along with a ton of other stuff. Guess I should've asked for forgiveness from the wife And bought a whole cart load.

Then there is a tach that you put a led wire around your spark plug wire - I only put one one when I'm doing something to the saw

Actually it serves its purpose, I just put a bigger alligator clip on it and it works fine clamping on the plug wire.

for the oddball multi poled flywheel you can get anything from just wrongish info to an unreadable screen depending on which flywheel and which tach
I think a buddy told me his 661 tached out at around 25,000 rpms in the cut with his first tach :)
I am pretty sure it is way worse with the heater flywheels and I am not saying none of the others will work, but I have heard and experienced some models being less than usable in those situations
Dave
and of course for $20 you can find out if the cheaper one works for what you need before you spend a heapload on the Stihl tach

Thanks for that info, I am only trying to learn, not saying one is better than the other.
