It's been 40 years since Madsen's modded my then 090 so I forgot what all they did to it Lol.
They made the cylinder some what a open port transfer ducts and put in 2 finger ports. Piston was modified with .080" off the intake skirt and the 2 top edges to the transfers were milled to promote a "swirl effect" into the combustion chamber (according to Sam Madsen) as I now remember him telling me way back then.
Haven't pulled the 084 cylinder yet, will see what was done to it.
Getting about time to focus on the Honda's again.

Site looks different after been away for almost a month.
I booted the 084 and 090 out the door back to their owner after going through them.
I didn't have to pull the 084 cylinder as I was able to take pics through the exhaust port and spark plug hole.
Way back in 1987-'88 Madsen's did put 4 finger ports in it. They raised the port ceilings, polished the exhaust and removed the choke butterfly and put on a velocity stack. They built a better pipe then they did on the 090 years earlier.
Will take me a while to figure out this new photo download system.

update on my 1983 Honda CR250r. Got her done and in the wood in the last few weeks.
Drove a quick 3000 mile round trip out to Kaslo B.C to enter their Open hotsaw Canadian championship event plus their tree felling event. First show of the year .
Like the YZ125 I was doing the run in and testing right up to the competition. The 250 ran and cut excellent well beyond my expectations a day before the competition.
But unfortunately my faulty $4 primer spray bottle didn't get her running during the 1 minute warmup.
Next event in the tree felling I was first up in the first heat My tree squished the can of beer target but got a DQ for not having my hand on the tree on "go".
Hopefully my luck gets better into the season, Lol.

Oh wow that looks incredible! Nice work! I forgot about that carb (the one on it). I had the CR250 carb in my head for what it was going to be running. The carb you chose looks super trick compared to what a normal MX style carb looks like.

Thanks. Yes totally different carb then the original. This modified Mikuni jetski carb and the one on my YZ125 came all the way from southern California.
No float, has H and L adjustment screws like on a chainsaw and has instant WOT response. This CR250 carb is only 1mm larger venturi then the one on the YZ125.

@Willard Sweet! Ok yea I remember you saying that about the jet ski carb, that it had been modified. For the instant throttle response, does it have an accelerator pump / squirter?

To be honest I'm not sure what he did internally to the carb. Only I know he removed the bombsight in the venturi and replaced it with a short atomizer nozzle pipe. As soon as the butterfly shaft rotates fuel pressure is released out of that pipe. It's a pretty strong pumper carb.

@Willard - dude nice! Pumper carbs help a lot for lightning fast throttle response. I wish I could find one small enough for my little clone 110 pitbike I have been playing with. I think I have it just requires a throttle cable with a split into two at the carb end to run the pump. It’s not set up with a lever system to run the pump.

Just a half formed thought here.

A number of motorcycles ran a throttle cable that needed to have the one cable at the throttle/handle bars and then have two cables at the other end. (at least in the 70's era)
One controlled the carburetor and the other controlled the oil pump.
You might see if someone has the "splitter" section for sale in old bike parts?
Or is this cable set up used in the hot saw stuff?

edit: here's the first one that popped up on ebay for me.

Maybe this will help get ya into the catagory and find a usable kit?

Funny you guys mention split throttle control for oil pump and carb.
I've been running that setup on my hotsaws for over 40 years.

@Willard - Wow that works perfect for you since you are running a pressure system for the bar oil. Simple and I assume it would work extremely well. Do you ever adjust the psi depending on what wood is at the competition or maybe temperature?

@legdelimber
Hey thank you very much! That helped! It led me on a path to finding some cheap overseas copies to try out first to see if I can make something work.
