Why so much love for the Stihl Wrap handle (461R)?

Thanks for clarifying for me. Is there anyway you can link the part numbers for the 2. I Also think the HO oiler wouldn't add any additional weight.

The control bolt inside is different I know that, not sure about weight part but I doubt it weighs more. I think the part number is 1128 640 3250 for the whole HO pump.

I have a love affair with wrap model saws because many times I can only cut from one side do to houses, barns, fences, and especially from a bucket truck. My solution is to have a wrap 372xp, 390xp and 395xp as well as non wrap models ready for work...

I like to have a full wrap saw around. Mostly I prefer a regular half wrap setup though.

Big oiler is nice for longer bars.

Clutch cover is only needed with the wrap, but then it's a great idea. Helps keep fingers and gloves out of the chain. That's its purpose.

Big dogs suck unless you're felling. Even then, sometimes they suck, but when you need them, they're nice to have.

Roller chain catcher is groovy, but doesn't seem to work much better than the aluminum normal one.



For me, I like to keep a felling saw around. I don't want to buck normal firewood with a full wrap or a long bar or big dogs, but when dropping good sized trees it's nice to have those features.

Joking aside..I really like wrap handle saws.

All the extras you get when you purchase a wrap saw are just an added bonus.

Around here it’s harder to find a non wrap 70cc up stihl...the other thing I like about the 3/4 wrap is it keeps my clutch cover from getting scratches and is like a mini roll bar! Lol

Had one on my 044 but it's light enough to live without it, it's now on a 461 with a climber mate



If I could, I'd have a set of saws with and a set without

I'm liking them on the 461. Debating whether to get one later or not. I like mine on the 562, just can't forget the short scrench. Not a lot of room on the 562 Hoosky.

But, the guy was asking about weight savings by downloading components from his 461R. I have a new 461 among other Stihls, but mine is not the R model and it has a half wrap handle. The only wrapped saw I have is a Hoosky, of which, I just wanted to point out some of the positives, and drawbacks, of the full wrap handles. On my particular saw, it's difficult to get to the bar nuts without a compact scrench, as the wrap completely covers the aft bar nut.

Nope no language barrier....I'm born and raised American, I just happened to marry a Greek while stationed abroad. Greece people...that's funny! Greek people, it is.

No Hoosky talk....cool, I like Dolmars too. I like all of them. I ain't a fan boy of any particular brand. Run 'em all, fix 'em all and sooner or later break 'em all. Rinse, repeatt.

much better....and Dolmar talk is OK....its just them Darn Hooskys that set us off. Us Mericans we say "Greece" people. And without stating the obvious... Some of my best friends are "Greece people"...

oh and I like my "wraps" because they keep my pretty saws....pretty.

The only full wrap I’ve been able to fit a normal scrench under was a 056 mag so far. That saw is about as wide as a bus though. Lol

I'm gonna nickname my small scrench 'American Express'....."don't leave home without it." I need to order an extra to keep under the truck seat.

Actually a mac 125 takes a normal 9/16 wrench for bar nuts, pretty simple.

My title send this thread down the route of discussing the wrap handle itself. But the "Wrap handle version" contains multiple things, that add up to 1.1 lbs.

1. 3/4 wrap handle. Seems like a pro for felling from both sides, but a con for cutting stumps
2. HO oiler. This seems valuable for long bars.
3. Larger clutch cover. Why do I care?
4. Larger (and dual) dogs. They look cool, but if you don't actually need them they just take away bar access and add weight
5. Roller chain catcher. No idea why I need this

1. Long baring from 1 side.
2. Very.
3. Longer bars mean more chain cutting at one time, which means more ships, alas the larger clutch cover for chip clearance.
4. They also work great on Eastern trees.
5. I take it you’ve never thrown a chain?
Chain Catcher keeps the chain from assaulting Your Saw when the chain throws.

If You don’t like it, sell it.

The big cover it to keep your fingers on your hand more than anything when using the wrap side ,also helps keep the chips from going down your neck when cutting a tree down on a hill holding the saw overhead.
If worried about the weight buy a reduced weight bar .Or get an ms440 ,that will shed another pound or 2 when use them both together .

When I was in Montana the wood hoes there told me those madsens handles were weak and didn't hold up well.
