Why so much love for the Stihl Wrap handle (461R)?

I do want to try some normal sized dogs though to see if I like them. Any tips on where to fine some used 461 dogs for a sane price? Or reasonably priced alternatives? I'm not seeing any on ebay.

I'd also like to try a non-R handle and clutch cover if anyone's selling. I don't want to trade though... I'd like to try out both versions.

I’m wondering why per Stihl the 461 max bar is 32” and the 461r with the HO Oiler is the same 32”?


Reason I ask is I may have to sell a saw soon. I have a 36” I only use once in a great while for stump bases. Wondering if my 461r will oil her? It’s ported so it’s got the juice.

I have a 661 that it goes on now but I sure could use some cash. Course it says 32” max as well, LOL. What gives.

Wife’s ride is in the shop and I might have to offload a saw.

Most stihl standard oilers are stingy in my experience. The 661 was sorta stingy until I knocked in the restrictive pin and now its good. The standard oiler in 461 is stingy too. I’d guess the improved ho R oiler in the 461 is good.

Yeah I bumped the pin in my 661 as well. I don’t run my 36” often but it’s something I like to have. I just figure I can always get another 661 down the road, a MMWS461r not so much. I think my 461r will oil it well enough for the few times I use it, unless someone who knows more says otherwise.
