I know you said you were not planning on porting it, but there is an example of what appears to be the best way to go. Saw was listed in classifieds a couple of months ago. I tried to link it here but had to give up. It's easy to find.

I can't even spell "degree wheel" no less use one proper.

I think the best plan of attack is to pull the jug and see what shape it's
in. Then price the 359 slug if it will get by with just that. If the slug is toast then a 357 swap makes the most sense.
We're just junkies living vicariously..... :)

A 357 is awesome, but to me, not that awesome. :couch:

I was shocked too, but the price a little high for some. If i had the extra coin laying around, it would be on its way to Randy lol.

I'm getting the Christmas 357 from Joey @Stihlbro.

If you want Angelo, I can ask Joey to ship right to ya to try. Don't think it would cost a dime more.

I have the tooling to play with these Angelo. 46mm bore ;).

I can do that! I have a good used 359 jug if needed. Lower transfers have been worked on and base is cut. The piston will run but I'd renew it.

I should have bought that 357xp in the box. They are great saws, had my 359 for 15 yrs, my friend has it now, and besides swapping carburetor after 2 wks old, have never touched it, and my friend b ought his original saw 1 wk after me, runs s his a lot more then i, and I have only ever put a new ring in it this year, said the powe're was a little less then running mine before, now it is back to where it was, I missed dine so much I found a 357xp and it will be heading for extra bananas in march. Great saws, very easy to work on.

Good saw either way, but I'd rather have the stuffers when using a 357 top-end.
Just makes more power and a nastier attitude.

so we are absolutely sure of one thing....its a good saw...when ported ( DUH !!! )
swapping out the top end, while an obviously worthwhile process is a 'ford v chevy' thing and i'm a Dodge guy !!!

:D

I wonder how a Ported 359 would respond to stuffers? Any thoughts from the guru's on that combo...

Not a guru, but I've run some Strong ported 359s'! No stuffers. Very impressive!
Never heard of anyone running a stuffed 359?

The 359 responds well when ported and having stuffers on the crank. The thing about stuffers I've found, is that they don't necessarily make the saw more powerful- they change the RPM range in which an engine makes peak power. This is why I mentioned earlier that the 359 jug needs a lot of work when adding stuffers to the saw- the transfers are poorly designed and poorly manufactured.

I don't know if poorly is the word I would use, cheaply maybe.
