Have you seen the 359 top out yet? Its pretty clear why its not as great...

I can take some pics of both if you like.
I've seen the difference in cylinder design but I'm not smart enough to understand how it affects performance.

The 359 is pretty rough out of the box... The air gets kicked all over those ports making its way out and that after it finally gets by the huge square shelf blocking the entry... The ports are poorly cut in and not even on many 359s.

Pics are always welcome.

Haven't even cleaned it enough to take the covers off yet.
I think it's #8 on a list of "projects" that are mine and about 7 others that are friends/customers. (Thank God for boxes)

*note: husky's are not my favorite saws to work on therefore rarely get moved up on the project list....Stihls are much more betterer.

Hey @Mastermind do you leave the stuffers in the 357 or take them out when you hot rod them.

Exactly why those jugs need so much work. I can have 2.5 hours just working over the transfers on those.

Right on jj. I had crazy amounts of time on mine. As a huge bonus though.... All straight handpiece work so even hacks like me can make it happen. :)

i like the 359.much better than the 455/2255,029 series saws.i have a running 359 and 359 all swapped to 357.still have another 359 that is going to get the 357 non stuffer treatment then swap to 359 with stuffers.i do love the 357 i built.
tonight i threw together a 372 with one of Dave's big bore kits.later this week will be a 346xp ne with a new top end.:D

I can say the 357 is a beast of a saw. It limbs well with its high chain speed and is unstoppable while bucking with a 20" bar. But my 357 days are over.....

Guys, picked up a blowed up 359 and am planning on "someday building" it...
question for the Husky guys is why would you 357 a 359 saw or would you convert it at all ?
what are the differences ? other then the XP in the 357 ?

not planning on porting it at this point so....
You said no porting. I think the answer is that you can very simply bolt on a better performing top end (357). Gasket delete and muffler mod. You will have a rockin' firewood saw. Or, if you change your mind, and want to try your hand at some port work (assuming your cyl. is salvageable) the 359 has the removable transfer covers which give you easy access. Ditch the cat muffler if it has one, major restriction...

I know you said you were not planning on porting it, but there is an example of what appears to be the best way to go. Saw was listed in classifieds a couple of months ago. I tried to link it here but had to give up. It's easy to find.

I think the best plan of attack is to pull the jug and see what shape it's
in. Then price the 359 slug if it will get by with just that. If the slug is toast then a 357 swap makes the most sense.
