Put a cheep Lil used 18 amp brushless system in my new latrax prerunner the other day and went to test it out. The 3rd time I hit the throttle the esc went up in smoke. So now I ordered a new 60 amp speed control and its much bigger than I expected but il make it fit. Just waiting on the new brushless motor to show up get it tuned by Sunday. If all goes well this truck should fly.

Have you ever switched spur gear from 52t to 47t. Hobby shop said it will work fine but im out of adjustment for meshing the gears. Is it normal to have to make the adjustment slots longer to mesh them?
Oh its the savage x4.6
This thing just seems to fight me with everything lol.

Was just looking at the motor and spur gear. I may be better to shim motor up into the gear. Not much room between cooling fins and gas tank.

Iv'e been in and out of RC cars since the 80's, 1/18th, 1/10th, 1/8th and 1/5th scale. Back in the mid 90's I bought a couple of Kyosho MP 7.5 4x4 1/8th scale nitro motors for my son and I he liked driving but didn't like the repair end of it so that hobby was short lived. They sat for years and one day one of my employees mentioned that he was into RC, he talked me into converting one of them into brushless 6 cell and bought a new high performance nitro motor for the other, I was totally blown away how fast the the electric on was, the new nitro motor was much faster than the old one but the electric version I could hardly keep the tires from blowing off the rims! About 5 years ago I bought a 1/5th scale Losi5ive 4x4 I think it had a 3hp motor on it and was kind of boring to drive so I bought a 5hp for it and that was better but still ended up getting bored with it. I heard of a guy in Ca. that was making custom chassis for the Losi so I gave the kit a go. It consisted of a losi front end, custom chassis with the motor being mounted 45 degrees and set back about two inch's towards the rear of the car, it was a two wheel drive set up instead of 4x4, the trans was all custom HPI, custom carbon fiber wheelie bar and the motor we chose was a Scott Finlay 32CC reed motor, with custom wheels and tires from Bishop racing, now were talkin! This thing was ripping! Not sure what I was thinking but a guy in Italy "ALX" is making custom big bore motors 40, 50 71, 85cc and twin 80 -100 cc. I bought a 71cc 18HP, dear mother mary of God what a handful!! LOL The only problem now is finding a place to run it, we have a huge soccer field in front of our subdivision that's perfect for this car, it likes smooth thick grass so it hooks up but literally tears up anything that it runs over like a dirt bike would. If your interested ALX web page. http://www.alx-rcengine.com/pagina14.html Crazy stuff out there now days. http://www.alx-rcengine.com/index.html

I’ve wanted one for a while for my son and I to play with. I think a 4x4 would be best for our terrain around here. Any suggestions on nitro vs electric? Brands? Etc?

I had a brushless slash. That thing was tough as nails and fast as all heck.

Anybody seen this? http://www.oneillbrothers.com/rc-ca...ed-case-engine-with-v2-reed-valve-design.html

I wonder if there's anything useful to learn from their methods to implement in small chainsaws port jobs. If only we could get 9hp @ 17500rpm in the cut with a 200t. Certainly way more engine than anyone would need in an RC car right? wrong

Their HP ratings have been know to be over inflated along with quite a few more engine companies. Scott Finlay has one of the best reputations for building small bore motors, just be prepared to pay the price and he usually has quite a waiting period. I had purchased a 34cc reed motor from him when they first came out and waited 9 months to get it. It was worth the wait.

Yea, I always wonder about how true specs are when it comes to their engines, and Nova Rossi and other hobby engines, various OPE...

I know HP can reach ridiculous amounts at very high rpm according to how so many high rpm engines have ridiculous HP specs. Just think how much weaker a chainsaw is a 4500rpm vs 9000rpm, so why not have a double or triple in HP at 20,000? Many RC car engines show high HP numbers compared to airplane engines, but at 25-60krpm instead of 10-18k.

I watched a video of an OBR 46cc 12hp car, and it wasn't impressive, but I did notice 1st gear was so fast that the car would be going fast and running out of space before the engine could rev anywhere near it's max power range. Mostly just a bunch of clutch burning.

I've always wanted to try gearing a bunch of little 15cc car engines together to turn a huge propeller in a giant scale airplane. 4x 15cc engines @3HP each should be enough. They'd be running 35% nitro @ 30krpm instead of plain gas at 8,000
