Who makes the 272XP replacement cylinders for Husqvarna?

If I was to order a new 272XP top end from Husqvarna, what manufacturer should I expect to see stamped on the cylinder? I saw a cylinder in a box with Husqvarna numbers on it and it was a Gilardoni. Is that right, or was it an aftermarket jug in a Husqvarna box?

All of the 272 replacement cylinders I have seen lately have been KS. The Gilardoni was probably an open port cylinder for a 61 or later 268.

This would be old stock. I don't know if they ever made them for Husqvarna or not. I have picked up a lot of good old stuff from this guy. I just bought a box of NOS 77 parts from him. There is no telling how long those parts have been on a shelf... I didn't check the part numbers to see if they were the correct number for 272. I will be better informed when I make my next visit.

I am not going to say Gilardoni never made a 272 cylinder but I have never seen one. Most were Mahle, later replacements are KS.

Gilardoni made several cylinders for that series- mainly the open-port 268K and closed-port 268 Special cylinders, mostly for markets in Europe and Asia. I do believe there was a run of Gilardoni jugs for the early 272 though, mostly for saws sold in Europe. I got a 272 carcass that came from the UK and it had a Gilardoni closed-port jug on it.

The three 272 jugs I have in the shop right now are all Mahle.

Current 272, (and 288), OEM cylinder kits are made in Brazil by Kolbenschmidt. Both of those saws are still in production down there. Other parts like top covers are also made in Brazil by Husky.

Also in production down there are the non XT 372, 55, 61, 281. Sure wish I could order from THAT warehouse. :)

I am not an expert on the various configurations of these OEM P+C kits. The current one, KS, is excellent. No slag, no burrs, excellent plating. I am looking at it right now, and it is machining art.
