I just read a long thread about a member who has on 038 and had a very tough problem with getting the saw to run. He finally bot an OEM "intake boot". Where is this part located? I admit I know very litte about saws, but if it happens to me I want to know how to fix it. Thanks.

Additionally, the intake boot is often times the source of an air leak on a saw. If the boot is cracked/ dry rotted, it is usually a sign that the impulse line, and fuel lines need changed because the same cracking issue could be present

I might mention although it's best to replace a damaged boot they can be repaired .It's made of Buna-N synthetic rubber same as an O-ring .Loctite 401 will glue it back together .If you work on old stuff like I do some times you have to be creative because you can't find repair parts .

A torn boot will make the engine do strange things .Like run at 5-6,000 or more RPM at idle .Usually the tear will be on the bottom side where you can't see it unless you remove the boot .I will say this you need to make certain the entire portion of the boot where it goes over the intake needs to be fully in place before you tighten the clamp or else it's just a matter of time before it fails .It's not a race, pay attention to what you are doing .
