For stumping, I think this is a great application for an old but powerful saw that can handle a long bar. Since this saw isn't being carried through the forest, the weight is insignificant. Thus saws like Mac 125, Homelite 750, Stihl 070 and so forth come to mind.
Personally, I usually stump with whatever saw I felled the tree with. I don't have anything designated for that purpose. I always tell customers "I will cut the stump as low as feasible, usually within 6 inches of grade".

The reason I suggested carbide, was because we use them for cutting holes threw roofs for the fire dept. it's pretty tough stuff. They make diamond sharpeners that fit in dremel tools for cheap. So sharpening them is a small investment. But if you want a quality carbide, it's HELLA expensive.

Put high output oiler in one of the beat up 066/660's, mod muffler let extra heat out and run good 32:1 mix. Budget stumper. 36" .404 skip semi chisel .063

I use a jd 800 24"hard nose. I like the thumb oiler and it just pulls good.

My 066 w/36" RSLH did well on these, but the trees were solid and I kept it above the ground.

Proper wedging is important, and easier if the bar goes all the way through (it did not on either of these).

First, follow the cut with a wedge to keep the bar from being pinched. Near the end, remove the first wedge, and put 2 opposite each other just past where the bar cut, so when the bar breaks through the wood see saws away from the bar.

(Chestnut Oak & Red Oak stumps) My 066 & 660s seem to oil very well when turned up (even the Chinese AM).

On a big oak stump it's usually a pair of 038 mags, one stock one souped .One with either a 20" or 24" the other with either a 24" or a 32" depending on how much stump it is .The 038 models can take a lot of heat .
I've got larger saws but they all have full wrap handles except the 084 Stihl .I'd hate to cook the 084 on a stump .--stumping ,miserable freakin work ----
