Got this 3120 recently. Ran it a little when it arrived and it’s sat since. Went to start it for cackle fest last night and saw this junk outside the tank. It’s been in a hot shop since AC died...but other saws didn’t show it.

Maybe it has a cheap filter in it and the ethanol dissolved it...

When Ethanol blends first arrived here, I started seeing OPE with something that looked like mold growing in and on it.

1st image was a carb off of my string trimmer.
Look lower left of frame. Notice the Impulse hole.
Carburetor had that fine "scaffolding" of something growing all through it.

Next two images are from a neighbors trimmer that had quit running.
I've seen a bunch of carburetors that look about like that, after exposure to the Ethanol blended fuel in my region.

There's something awful nasty in the blend here.
I also had several of those red plastic Blitz brand fuel jugs that all slowly turned black with some sort of mildew looking mess spreading across them.
Water blasted and bleached them but it kept regrowing.
Almost like a remake of The Andromeda Strain or something...

I finally found E-free fuel in the next county (oh yeah, it's worth the trip) and got some new fuel jugs.
No more weird fungal growth after that.
That's why I won't let Ethanol blend fuel near my things anymore.

We seem to get a different blend here, even if it's non Ethanol blend.
It even smells different.
My neighbor won't drive to the next county for his (E-free) fuel and he still has some fuel system troubles even though we've done the water and shake, saturation test, for ethanol.
Whereas I'm still going to the next county for my fuel and I'm not having problems. ...yet...

I bet ethanol plus humid climate makes mold n muck. Luckily it's somewhat dry here so we mostly just get dried up gummy junk.

Diesel does the same in the truck in my avatar if I let it sit too much in summer. Course it's crazy hot here. Reminds me, I need to top it off and add summer additives and stabil...

I spent a few months in Fla (early '90s).
Played a manual machinist/fabricator for a small contractor doing work out of this place https://bradford-marine.com/
Seeing as sometimes they had to top off in some sketchy locations, I can remember hearing a few mentions of algae issues for the yacht tanks.
