The "without clutch cover" theory never held any water - it didn't really fit on any model. The "excess" weight of the 357xp and 359, that I feel originated this theory, was a result of a reinforced crankcase introduced early in production, that never was reflected in the specs, and had nothing to do with that cover.

Of course the weights in specs are without dawgs and other extras, as it is up to the operator if he uses such extras.

I read years ago the pho makita dolmar 7900 weight specs was done without clutch cover etc. Was in some dolmar literature I read.
Thats why when they first came out they showed 13lbs and something PHO.

Not going to look for it now as it has been years. Have fun. ;)

The clutch cover of that saw doesn't make much difference, as it just is a thin shell. As I recall it the specs were 13.6 lbs, and many people believed it was about true for some time. The German test site KWF originally said 13.8, but their relationship to Dolmar was too close for "comfort" at the time, so in hindsight I don't trust the findings.

PHO for 044/440 are generally +/- 14 lbs, and 460/461s about 14.75 lbs. With fluids, the difference is about a full pound. You won't notice it if you are just bucking, but if you are limbing with it, or felling in an awkward position (especially at the end of the day), you will definitely notice it. I have 3 of each flavor (044/440 and 046/460). I prefer the 044/440s for limbing and overall use, and the 046/460s for bucking & milling.

I find the 044/440s balance well with either a 20" E bar, or a 28" ES Light. The 460s feel very nose heavy with a 36" ES Light bar, would likely feel much better balanced on a 90 cc saw.

Thanks to all who have posted actual weights, the more info the better.
