As far as I know, the early ones are, but not the later ones. There is a difference between early and late 044s and 046s as well - actually this is more common than most people believe, and not specific to Stihl. Some times it is reflected in the specs, some times not...
Early and late 064 weigh the same, early 066 and late 660 do not.

My first year 046 and 2009 460 are within a few ounces of each other.

Some say this and some say that...

With the 044 and 046 it was the specs that changed around 1999 (power output as well as weight), I don't know what the truth is...

Only difference in early and late 064 is the airfilter setup and the the case is different where the serial number is but it wouldn't change weight
Both with a HD setup would weigh the same.

Mine in the pic is a late one, early 90's model

1.3 lbs overweight vs. specs - but there are signs they weren't always that much overweight.

Because if you read some saw makers weigh PHO WITHOUT the clutch cover etc. ;) Not that a clutch cover weighs that much. But just saying. ;)
Hmm then you have that outer dawg too on the clutch cover. Who cares cut wood be merry :campeon2:

That's a 92cc 064.
That's why the 046 and 460 I own never get uses.
A 044 ain't much lighter and can't even be compared power wise.
A 70cc saw is completely useless to me,if I'm going to run a smaller saw I'll use my 034 or 026.
I know what the scales say ,but my 440 i can cut with much longer over my 461 ,it just handles better for me the balance point must be different .

The 7900 I'm porting for you now feels heavier than a 064 but I haven't weighed it yet. I will when it's together after while

The wrap adds a bit of bulk and weight, was going to send it half wrap but it fitted inside toat so I sent it..... It feels different half wrapped.

Sent from my non internal combustion device.

You run a long bar on a small saw so what feels good to you probably won't me.
If I could run a 32" 404 on a small saw I probably would but I can't.
It wold be very nose heavy and I wouldn't like that either but it's what you get use to.

I think wraps balance some saws out which may weigh more but feels moe betta.

The wrap on the dolmar does maybe center the weight due go design, they look odd but work very well

The 064 has alway been the king in the power to weight ratio contest (Among that group of Stihls).....Amazing saws!

For chits and grins i hung my 461 when i first got it ,with the heavier stihl light bar ,my oregons are lighter ,the 440 is not as nose heavy as the 461 ,here are couple images i took back then ,did not nose dive too bad really with a 32 inch bar 461 balance 003.JPG 461 balance 002.JPG 461 balance 001.JPG

The "without clutch cover" theory never held any water - it didn't really fit on any model. The "excess" weight of the 357xp and 359, that I feel originated this theory, was a result of a reinforced crankcase introduced early in production, that never was reflected in the specs, and had nothing to do with that cover.

Of course the weights in specs are without dawgs and other extras, as it is up to the operator if he uses such extras.
