So I am surprising my wife with a weekend trip without the kids to Louisville in October. We have passed through there hundreds of times over the years but always had a schedule to keep so never stopped to smell the roses. I know we have talked about walking the big four bridge and taking a cruise on the bell of Louisville.

We are not into any of the whiskey or bourbon trail stuff but open to most things.

What are your must visits while you're there or in the surrounding area?

Not sure if this is of any interest to you or your wife but several years ago I did some work at a Jim Beam plant south of Louisville and we spent a lot of time at Kart Kountry in Shepherdsville which is just south of Louisville. I am not local at all so I don't know what other interesting things there are to do but if you enjoy go karts, it was a very fun time!

No like west side of town. Shively Portland areas. Which there's nothing to do there besides work in a chemical plant

From 1999-2001I had to take kids to Louisville for the National FFA Convention. I found it tough to locate things to do. We went out to Lexington to the Kentucky Horse Park but that was about as exciting as watching paint dry.

If I was going in October I would go to the Equip show. It is a huge OPE trade show October 15-18.

Back in 2022 it gained a bit of extra attention when the DeWalt electric mower burnt.

Well then what is it that she likes to do? If my wife was still here we would be at Baraboo Wisconsin today for the tractor show. Tomorrow would be vintage saw racing all day.

She is very open minded. Neither of us is interested in alcohol stuff. I already have a river cruise booked and we have a few more spots we have always talked about visiting. I was mainly just seeing if someone had visited something in the area that doesn't make it to the front page of Google or the travelers guide kind of place.

I havent been to Louisville for many years but I remember there was a blacksmith shop there, Kaviar forge, he had a very nice gallery with examples of his work and sculpture.

Damn, she would love to visit there but they are only open the same hours as our river cruise. ☹️

Steve I recommend coming on down I65 south a little to the Cave City area. Mammoth Cave National Park has miles and miles of hiking trails, opportunities for kayaking on green river and you can also mountain bike some of the trails. This on top of the cave tours of course. And in the surrounding area there are some good places to eat. A few golf courses. Some antique shops, some gimmicky souvenir shops, a few shops that sell local stuff.
Plenty of reservoirs in the area too.
Just depends on what you guys are in to.
A few more miles down the road in Bowling green is the National Corvette museum.
But October (specifically mid-late October) is the best time to be outside here in the bluegrass. Usually the temps are nice and the leaves are changing.
