Yeah. Never put the saw away without loosening the chain. What really hurts a "weak" crank is running a dull chain till it gets hot and stretched, then tightened up. When that gets put away, the chain cools, contracts, then pulls the crank end out of place. After that, it wobbles, vibrates, then cracks.

No good parts in that pile now. I need to haul it off.

Thank you Sir!! I'll pass that information on to my brother. Be a sad day if that crank broke.

@Mastermind I'd port the chit outta that 10mm for a saw with extra vim and vigor and find a 440 to build a hybrid as they have the toughest bottom ends of all of 'em.
I have a 12mm 044 with a 460 top end on it.

If itā€™s headed to the woods for use and abuse then more power is better. If youā€™re just going to admire it and make forum threads about it then give it a nice sparkly tiara, name it Princess and put it on the high shelf between Precious and Queeny.

But, I don't have a Precious or a Queeny.

Good answer though.

I do have a few. A 044 10mm ported by Tree Monkey, 044 Arctic "Like New", NOS 440, NOS 440 Arctic ported by Tree Monkey, West Coast 440 being ported by Stump Shot now, and "Precious" another like new 440 ported by Tree Monkey. I guess I need a Mastermind ported 440 or 044 now!

I'll only need to port two more to catch up. Lol

That thing is an absolute time capsule and a very early 10mm. I think it falls into the category of "it's only original once". That being said, pack that piece of junk up and send it to Taylors, SC and I'll give it a proper burial.
