Hi all-

New around here and need help identifying a part, please. I have a Poulan Pro PP4218. I am the second owner... was given to me by an Uncle. When I got it, it was running kind of rough, so I replaced the typical things... spark plug, air filter, fuel filter, fresh fluids. As I disassembled it, the thing in the pictures literally fell out of the case. I have no idea what it is and can't figure it out based on any exploded views I see around the net. Saw runs better than it did, but it will still stall under 80%+ throttle without blade engaged. If I engage the blade, it'll run without a problem. A new problem is that it will also sometimes stall after I've been cutting almost as soon as I disengage the blade.

I'm hoping this little part has something to do with the problem. If not, it sounds like the carburetor maybe? If that's the case, anybody got a hot lead on a carb? Looking forward to hearing back. Thanks!

Don’t know where your mystery part goes. But it sounds like either your clutch springs are weak or the clutch drum bearing is dry or needs replaced. The saw should idle without the chain spinning.

Also, nota good practice to rev the saw up with the chain brake engaged

That looks like the lower frame of a modern sewing machine foot.

Here's the IPL:
