I have a friend that is going to sell a like new 084. It has never had a bar on it. It has had gas in to confirm that it ran. Here are some pictures. Don't know what the deal is on the Air filter cover.

While it is very nice, it doesn't appear "new". It could be shelf wear. I would want to see the bar mount area to confirm whether or not it's cut wood before.
As far as value, the air filter cover diminishes it somewhat, the fact that the engine's been run and there's been fuel in the system diminishes it somewhat, the fact that there's scuffing and paint loss in a few places takes away a little value. Still, I think someone would pay $1000 to $1200 for it. I would not consider it to be NOS as it just isn't in good enough condition to warrant that description.

Yeah the saw is in pristine shape. It is a little surface rust. The pics make it look worse than it is. A little exhaust will cure it once it's ran

They sell for $1000 + in Australia in "renovators delight" condition.

But a new MS880 does cost $3000

The felling spikes look odd as well, almost like a certain brand of aftermarket.
I think as much as 1500 is a reasonable price for a vey patient seller. Closer to $1200 for a timely sale would be my guess.
New in box I expect it would bring $1500-1700 with patience.
It is a really nice saw but It is a wierd place between too nice to run at that price and not nice enough for a collector.

Thats a sweet saw for sure, though im with the rest, that $2500 is a bit of a pipe dream. I hope your friend finds his buyer!

I believe the bumper spikes for an 084 are supposed to look like these on an 880 that I sold late last year:

wow looks really nice, IMO 2500.00 might be a bit high. I picked up a used one for roughly a quarter of that, and with parts availability being what it is, you'd have to find a real enthusiast looking for a shelf saw. Good luck to your friend with the sale, hopefully he finds a buyer he can agree on a price with.
