So, theres not many threads on OPE for a guy to learn about Dol's. I just picked up a 7900, whats the difference between the 7900 cylinder and the 7910?

So far I read the decomp hole is on the clutch side of the 7910 (opposite of 7900) and the 7910 has SLR muffler.

Can I put a 7900 muffler on a 7910?

Is the intake boot from the 7900 plug and play?

Is there a performance difference between the two?

The saw in question is a 7300... hence the desire to swap the larger cc top end onto the saw. I personally wouldn’t do the swap unless the cylinder was damaged, or I happened to have a spare 7900 top end already.
I was quoting @Marshy , not the OP. ;)

My PS-7300 is one heck of a stout saw, but I get the desire for the most power available.
I just don't swap P&C's, I simply add another saw and keep the ones I have as they are. :)

My mistake... I somehow missed Marshy’s post. Carry on. :)

No worries. You looking to part with that 7900 top end?

My "new to me" 7900 has seen better days. Not sure the extent of the damage yet. I'll be happy just to receive it (Facebook purchase). It's going to be shipped tonight. I figured it was worth $130 shipped.

Are the two cylinders the same bore?

Quad port?

Did they stop making the the 7900 cylinder?

Thanks again!

Nice score!
And BTW, You suck!

That looks salvageable, OEM parts can be had from any Dolmar/Makita dealer.
Other than piston and cylinder kits not much AM parts around.

7900 cylinder kits are NLA, only NOS if You can find them!

7900 and 7910 are both 52mm, quad port, same stroke.

I'd try salvaging the 7900 cylinder first, if it cleans up AM piston and Caber ring.

New cylinder kits for the 7910 are not expensive if you have a good dealer, ordered 1 today for my 6401 makita, along with a full wrap and HD filter setup and top cover, some say the regular filter flows better but I love the looks of the HD myself, always wanted a blue saw. Had less then $300.00 in all the parts, dang wrap was almost as much as the P&C but so worth it.

Is that your price or everybody’s price?

My local Home Depot has 6421 $280 right now. I could buy that lot and be into a respectable condition newer 7910 for around $600? With a full wrap and HD. Let’s get this deal going!

I gave $175 for the last 6401 I bought. It was a super clean saw, and the guy delivered it. The original price tag was still on the bar scabbard... it was only $279.99 with the 20” bar! I resold it for $300.

You can find a nice used 7900/7910 for less than that. Hell, I sold my MMWS 7900 for $800.

With a full wrap and hd filter though? That’s roughly $150-200 Value alone to buy out right.

I agree, you can find cheaper. But a new P/C and all those extras make that well worth a little extra money over used unknown to me!

It is so amusing for me to see how You guys split hair, no disrespect intended - honestly! :)

I am far from wealthy and I work 8 hrs a day, 5-6 days a week for a piss poor monthly paycheck (hint, converted to USD, three digit paycheck).
But I'll hand over cash for something that I want or need without thinking twice - and most stuff is more expensive "here" than "over there".

Again, truly no disrespect intended!
I just find it to be an interesting observation.

Cheers guys :beer-toast1:

Yeah
Complete waste of money if you ask me.
Not to mention a set back in performance with the filter.

Those prices are at cost for me, my dealer and I have a great relationship, we take care of each other. I do find it shamefulsthat some will mark up a cylinder kit for $100.00 more then it costs them.
