Guys I hate to do this, but I have to let you all in on same bad news.

I pulled Dale's KS cylinder I ported because I had been thinking and talking with Josh and we came up with a couple things I wanted to change with the transfers. When I pulled the top end, we were both shocked to find my new piston scored, and pecker tracks from some sort of small hard debris found on the piston crown and in the squish band of the cylinder. Unfortunately, Dale's cylinder sustained damage beyond repair too. On after much investigating, we found that the lower rod bearing cage is failing and I'm all but 100% certain that it is the source of the debris.

I've already been in contact with Dale about this and offered to port the Mahle cylinder intended for me to keep and send that to him, or get a new OEM cylinder kit, port that and send it to him. In classic Dale fashion, he is very easy going on it and told me whatever I want to do is good with him. But I'm going to let him decide what he wants, and then I will make that happen. I'm so upset with myself that I ruined a cylinder that belongs to someone else. I can't say for sure if this rod bearing was in bad shape before I installed it or not, it felt good. I should have checked it more carefully than I did. Looking very closely and using a pick to shift the rod to one side, you can see galling on both sides of the bearing retainer, one side being significantly worse than the other.

Anyway, 288 build/port just took a few steps back. :(

I'll need a cylinder for myself eventually but I'm not in a hurry. I've got Dale covered with the Mahle cylinder that was going to be for me. I'm going to port that cylinder for Dale and get everything sorted out and square with him before worrying about another cylinder for me. Thanks for asking though Joe :)

Wow that sucks balls!! So it needs a new crank too then? Don't beat yourself up. Most likely was bad or going bad before you got to it.

I know that this is very deflating but look at the positive side...............we all now have another 288 build to look forward to!!

Yeah, it needs a crank, but thanks to a good friend one will be on it's way next week already! :)

It's hard to pinpoint whether it was starting to fail before I installed it or if it started to fail with the run time I put on it. It sucks but at least it didn't completely grenade, possibly damaging the cases.

Fortunately, 2xx saws break down pretty quick and easy. Just need to get a new gasket set on the way and we'll be in business once again! :)

I've had a pretty good run of saw rebuilds that went together and ran well with hardly a hitch. I guess it's only fair that I have to battle with one at some point...figures it'd have to be this damn 288! Lol! I'm gonna have to give her a name befitting all of this hell she's given me thus far.... I'm thinking Jezebell, or maybe the hoe of Babylon?? Ba ha ha ha!

I LIKE that!! Has a sexy yet sinister vibe to it! Lol!

I thought that was what you were looking for,
I take your version and turn it into something that I could've slid into conversation with my Grandmother if necessary, instead of saying, that girls a hoe, Grandmother. I would be more comfortable (but still not very) saying, Grandmother, that young ladies reputation as a Harlot precedes her. Just words.

Just in case my Grandmother had ever needed to borrow a chainsaw!

"Christine" maybe, or possibly Helen, in reference to Helen of Troy? Persephone, bride to Hades, or how about Irene, as in Irene Adler?

As soon as he gets a few parts in, he'll be done with calling it names! He'll be back to singing Captain and Tenille love songs to it, watch and see...

It was a sad, frustrating day in the barn. Can’t help but wonder if that cage was showing signs of wear when Joe bought the builder from me. I gave it the same look he did when I pulled it out of my 288 when I first tore it down last spring. Spin check, roller check and Pop check...called it good. Hind sight is 20/20, Closer inspection is required. I’ll be helping with Parts cost, whether Joe likes it or not.
