Yep...but I think these guys enjoy the entertainment :D
Si Señor...
As you were!
I was checking out a 288 today, hadn't really ever paid much attention to this one, so I decided to look it over. Appears to be a fairly original KS saw, I didn't see much that made me think that it needed the belt sander, but I went ahead and got out the cross hatch machine, figured it wouldn't hurt to RE-NOS it, couldn't hurt...

.025 is actually about normal for a timing advance for hookies..
I asked my ol'bud the retired dealer why them saws aint setup to run like that from factory.
Epa, liability(from too powerful a saw), chit 2stroke mixes that will lunch a saw in a heartbeat, were the reasons he gave..
I see now that I mis understood your post about timing. I thought you meant you lost performance on both saws by advancing them. I’m trackin now.

I keep advancing until performance goes backwards, then I cut another keyway to match the last known hotrod point.
Does that make sense?
I have yet to see a husky go ape rape with extreme timing advance.
Stihl yes,,Husky no..

I generally go .025 or .030, typically the latter, I would match the muffler but don't think you will see much in gains from going with bigger outlet, generally just louder if you time cuts.

YEH, BUT LOUD SAWS SAVE LIVES!
And they sound fookn scary too..

I don’t think we see big gains with huge muffler openings either. But the biggest gain I think we get from them is getting rid of heat faster and on modified saws that’s a good thing

Makes perfect sense, thanks. Any husky I’ve advanced has been a similar amount. Good to know the 288 has the same potential. You’re right in that they don’t get a crazy power increase from an advance but it is noticeable.

Yep I’ve been having to tune my saws a lot because of the huge temp swings here. I’d rather twist a jet than have an auto tune too.

That Smithers, he's a fine young lad, we need more like him...
No promises guys, it’s 10F with a 25mph wind. We’ll do our best but it is frost bite cold today. I was just in the barn long enough to press an old bearing out of that 371 and my fingers got so cold they felt like I smashed them all with a hammer. Still a lingering side affect from some stuff I went through medically...no fun to be limited like that:(

We're patient, spring will be here soon...
Careful with your fignurs, not sure if similar to your issue, but I have Reynaud's syndrome ever since I formerly sold a lot of firewood, I'm surprised that there isn't a public service warning type thread about Reynaud's syndrome already on here.
Also called vibratory white finger disease, by people in the log and timberframe industry, but anyone in the right conditions is susceptible, people such as Barber's, using vibrating clippers all day. So stay safe and we'll stay tuned. And keep them booger pickers warm, what would you do without them...
