I’m no saw porter, just a dude that likes to run saws lol, but I’ve heard and read so many times “power is made/found in the transfers”. So your probably on the right track. I think timing advance .20 would gain a bit and match muffler to cylinder.
I'm sure that's true.

I expect/hope to get some descent gains after I match and mod the muffler and advance the timing, but I don't think it's going to be the end-all be-all.

I'm seriously shooting to get a grinding start-up kit from CC Specialties. Not to sound like a chump, but I have to wait to see what our tax return yields before I can commit to pulling the trigger. Working stiff with kids here... LOL! :D

I like the stacked duals on the one side near the OEM location @Mkinslow . I would prefer not to cut my brand new OEM cylinder cover with the bull horns config. Those 1" pipe?
I wouldn’t wanna cut it either bud. The big single outlet is 7/8 inside diameter so yeah it’s probably 1” outside. Puts out a good tone to. That’s the one on my 365 Tecomec saw

I think this thread is a great educator in terms of getting a Saw to run the way you want it to. We’ll get it dialed in one step at a time. I do agree, the transfers need more work and our tooling isn’t optimal for getting in there the way I think we need to.

Well, maybe we can get a little shop time tomorrow after work. I am curious if not anxious to make those changes and see what they yield.
Sounds good. it’s gonna be frigin cold again tomorrow, I’ll grab some more kerosene for the heater. It’s 40 degrees right now but the high for tomorrow is only 14! Crappy winter

That log is gonna be harder than wood pecker lips

My pair of 288 I cut .025 off of the key of one, other is at .028. I went farther with crank advance on both saws but saw a reduction of performance.
Seems they dialed it in right from the factory on day one, just like everything else with the 288:). Great info thank you.

.025 is actually about normal for a timing advance for hookies..
I asked my ol'bud the retired dealer why them saws aint setup to run like that from factory.
Epa, liability(from too powerful a saw), chit 2stroke mixes that will lunch a saw in a heartbeat, were the reasons he gave..
