The cylinder had some type of passage on the flywheel side of the intake port floor that connected with the base of the cylinder. Had to be careful not to grind through it.
I may just fill the entire tube with some bondo and widen the intake more. Not sure why they put it there anyway.

That passage way is the impulse to run the fuel pump in the carburetor. If you were to fill it in you would have to supply an impulse signal to the carb by adding in a connector to the crankcase. Would probable be better of just leaving be.
Absolutely 100% the base was cut on a lathe and that is a porters thumb.
