I haven't tried it...yet. I was going to call customs ahead of time and find out what I have to do if anything.
The wife and I have a 25th anniversary that weekend. ....and she went for it. But going through Canada saves me about 3 hours each way.

I bought my 044 from a fella in PA. When the saw arrived I had to pay duty and taxes on it before UPS would give it to me.
When we did the raffle for Phil a few years ago, we drove across the border to a Canadian dealership 10mi away. Picked up a 661 and drove it back. No issues. No duty.
My hunting buddies and best friends are import/export specialist for UPS & A.N. Deringer. I had them do some research prior to crossing the border.
Canada is about 1/16 of a mile from my front door. The largest Canadian border crossing in the US is right here. It's the main port between Montreal & NYC

Perhaps it was due to the fact that your saw was paid for over country lines?
We paid in Canadian funds.

Even the owner at the dealership told us there wasn't an issue and that he has several US customers who do the same thing.

Just curious if you had a chance to talk with your buddy today?
Here's his response........

If he is not selling them which would require an entry and not using them for profit- a green card- then he should not have an issue-- just has to declare them when he gets to the border. Snowbirds bring all their stuff when they move to Florida in the winter and back in the spring.

He may want to make a list of the saws and what he is bringing in and have it recorded/registered when he leaves Canada so he doesn’t have a problem bringing them back.

Thanks Jeremy. That definitely helps answer a few questions.
