Looking for some older 3/4" chain. This is to go on a bar I just picked up that is ~60" plus transmission length and helper handle length. Need 86 DL or so. Will take anything I can find right now.... piecing together chains is an option. Oregon #11 harvested will work if the tangs are thinned to ~0.084" from 0.122".

Any help, leads, etc please let me know.

TIA

Jimmy

Nicely Played sir :)
I should check my stash of big tie straps and presets to see if I have a way to spin two loops from that giant pond and deck chain

Jimmy- I have a whole box of used 3/4" pitch harvester chain but it's the .122" gauge stuff. I don't know if that would do you any good. It came from a buddy who is the owner/operator of a feller-buncher.

JJ ... Ill be in touch. May have to go that route and have the gauge dropped back. I think it is .082 .084"

I think the problem wit harvested chain is the very wide kerf that is no problem for the high horsepower harvester but really life an old saw down.

Actually kerf is no issue. These saws are all rated at 1940-50s 10-15 hp then going through a 1.7-2.0:1 transmission. They have the power.

Here is the issue:
Fits the drive fine. The chain won't clear the guard around the transmission end with the taller cutter and chassis height of the modern Oregon #11. Also the gauge is too wide. Gauge we can correct. The cutter height problem can be over come by spinning the loop after installed over the transmission.

The issue then is even taking the bar off you have a big pile of chain stuck on the transmission. One ends up pulling the whole transmission off instead of the bar for storage, transport, etc. These saws get longer than will fit in an 8' truck bed.

That looks like chipper chain. I have a Titan ER twin (294cc) and I dont think clearance is an issue with it. I watched another titan make a cut and it was having to work hard with its chain. Huge chips too.

Titan made some neat saws.

Some saws may not have clearance issues. The Mercury Disston KB7AY has issues... and that's what I am working on.
