TS400 clutch side nut

I posted this in the tech area, but no responses.

Can someone tell me if the clutch side nut on a TS400 is reverse thread like on a chainsaw (before I break something).

If so, it is just normal threads, lefty-loosie....

That is the only thing I don't like about this site, too many nooks and crannies for threads to be hidden in, and missed..

Are you using an impact wrench? Much better if you do....

Yes, that is the nut.

No impact wrench, don't have one, but I was going the wrong way! I thought it moved, but did not loosen, so I stopped.

Just use a ratchet then, and tap the handle to the left, it will "impact" loose with several taps.

The nut and (surprisingly) the clutch came right off. Of course, the clutch is reverse thread, and I mistakenly assumed the nut was also.

The reason I'm ripping this thing down is because it will not run w/o choke. I hooked up my vac/pressure tester and can't even get it to hold any pressure, and so far have not been able to find the leak. The rubber looks good, and I've spayed the seals & gasket with soapy water, but still can't find it. I know I must be missing something, will re check everything.

So it will keep running on choke? Sounds like you need to go through the carb
are you just applying air, looking for bubbles?

Check the decomp for leaks

Carb & coil have been replaced, same result, and decomp was sprayed with soapy water, no bubbles detected, but I may start replacing things with plugs and see what happens. I will also pressure test the rubber to make sure I did not miss something. It does not hold any pressure at all (or vac).

Turn it on its side and start pouring bar oil on the seals under vacuum. When vacuum goes up, you found your leak

Turned out to be the decomp valve. Was leaking so bad I could not find the leak with the pressure/vac tester, so I hooked my bicycle pump to it, and then I found it. Pulled the decomp twice & played with it, and the leak went away, but I will get a new one anyway.

Was good to see that thing start & idle!

Kevin called it, thanks! I actually had initially suspected that myself, even ordered one. But the place went out of business, and when I checked it, it looked OK, so I moved on. Oh well, I learned how to disassemble a one of these things!

Yet another decomp issue. Every saw I have worked on that had one leaked. Some much worse then others. Had several that wouldn't close when running so I just plug them on stuff up to 70cc.

My brother insists that I leave it "active", so a new one has been ordered (although the old one is holding just fine right now).
