Apparently if you put on a new chain ,and forget to flip the bar ,then remember to do it by flipping the bar and chain together ........ It instantly dulls the chain ,rendering it useless . It's happened to me a couple of times . Gonna do some research into this phenomina and get back to you all . I'm fairly certain that some chains may have a preferred gravitational preference .

Bought a saw off a guy who said it ran last week,,,dead this week, so we did a deal, I took it home turned the switch on and ran great,,
Another like some others here, yard sale guy has a dead stihl for sale no compression, he demostrates that,, says its part only, a fewbucks later its mine, its marked 044, get it home to find the plug laying on top,, better yet its had some port work and its an 046 (someone glued the 044 tag on), I did pass this deal on to a friend who lost his near new 361 off the back of his truck.

DEFINITELY some good reading here and glad to say I am not the only one to cuss myself out and look around to see if anyone was watching!!!

I kid you not with the following:

Tip# 165:Make sure the cylinder is not BACKWARDS before attempting to seat it on the case! For some reason in my feeble mind, a bare set of assembled cases (no fuel tank or carb box) look backwards to me if I don't stop and think for a second... No idea why, but I have attempted to seat a cylinder backwards not once, but TWICE in recent months! LOL!

Tip# 166: After fueling your saw and while it is still laying on it's side, make sure you replace the damned fuel cap before turning it back upright and carrying it back to the log pile you imbecile!! LMAO!

Tip# 167 After you are all done grinding on your cylinder and you get prepared to install the cylinder for final assembly and test your porting, be sure and re-install the compression ring/rings... @XP_Slinger :D

Tip to save fuel ....Pick up saw all nicely sharp after having a coffee and locking up the workshop. Wander off over fields to your designated cutting aria while taking in the view. Ear plugs in..start saw.. warm up saw.
Saw then stops as you cut the first stick ...saw has NO FUEL IN IT !!! You have had some exercise and saved fuel all at the same time ..Top Tip there.
