I’ll take some next time I’m there. I wasn’t proud. Went down fine. Center was rotten made things worse. Honestly a little larger tree than I prefer.Yikes Jake...
Where's the pics???
You get it down safely?
I made a real ugly back cut today. I missed by three inches on the back. Big oak 38 or so inch oak.
Lol looks ugly. I usually do good looking workWhat’s wrong with a stepped back cut?

You want the back cut to be higher by maybe 2" than the face cut for a good hinge.Lol looks ugly. I usually do good looking work
Yeah I know. I was where I belonged on one side. Under the hinge on the other. Crooked. Center was rotten so no real way to adjust. You want the back cut to be higher by maybe 2" than the face cut for a good hinge.

Help me out on this one. I’m not exactly sure what you mean by chase emIf you chase them you’ll be less likely to have back cuts off side to side.

Yes sir. That’s what I tried to do. I’ve been successful w that before. Saw clearly wasn’t level I was rusty. First big tree I’ve cut since last winter.Start on your sight cut side line up your cut then walk the cut around meeting up with the far side.
About like this

Yeah wasn’t really a scary thing but it left way before I wanted it to. Heavy weighted tree 20 inch limbs all off to one side. I’m sure I could’ve approached it differently but instincts were to go that route. Face cut was shallow. Tip from @westboastfaller. Tree had to go. It’s down mission complete. That's a tough one Jake. Looks like a lot of rot inside...
You got it down safe. All that counts.
All things considered pretty decent job to me Jake!View attachment 208360
