I’ll take some next time I’m there. I wasn’t proud. Went down fine. Center was rotten made things worse. Honestly a little larger tree than I prefer.

I made a real ugly back cut today. I missed by three inches on the back. Big oak 38 or so inch oak.

You want the back cut to be higher by maybe 2" than the face cut for a good hinge.

Yeah I know. I was where I belonged on one side. Under the hinge on the other. Crooked. Center was rotten so no real way to adjust.

If you chase them you’ll be less likely to have back cuts off side to side.

Start on your sight cut side line up your cut then walk the cut around meeting up with the far side.

15 minutes, she is down, topped and skidded out of the woods for us . You residential guys sure have it different, props to you.

Yes sir. That’s what I tried to do. I’ve been successful w that before. Saw clearly wasn’t level I was rusty. First big tree I’ve cut since last winter.

The stump is way high too maybe a little under 5 foot There was an ugly lump down low. I’m just throwing this out there Damn sure not making excuses. I fugged this one up. Plain and simple

Yeah wasn’t really a scary thing but it left way before I wanted it to. Heavy weighted tree 20 inch limbs all off to one side. I’m sure I could’ve approached it differently but instincts were to go that route. Face cut was shallow. Tip from @westboastfaller. Tree had to go. It’s down mission complete.
