The sycamore in the pic was a b**ch to split, as others have said it's a stringy wood that always looks clear and straight grained til you get into it. Sycamore is of the Genus "Maple" and as such is a close relative of all the other maples that you have. It's slightly softer than the other maples however it can make nice lumber, and the nature of the grain can often give it a birds eye pattern. However as there's a lot of it and it isn't valuable whatsoever i use it to make post and rail fencing or simply firewood
