Cool. I thought they maxed out at 150 to 200 years.

The European Ash can go quite a while. No one on the estate knows exactly how old this one is. It's about 8' DBH.

It’s not often you see a picture of a tree with what appears to be a small castle in the background. Beautiful country and what a cool tree that is...thanks for sharing

That's edge on. Gurteen Castle, the seat of the county for a few hundred years of Waterford Demesne(domain). It's not the size of sumfin like Castle Trim, Castle Kilkenny, or The Rock of Cashel, but it is a fair good size in it's own right. I spend most of my time on the farm side of things, tho.

Here's the usual goins on in the estate, which has been in the Family since they were Normans. I'm a very distant relative from a neighbouring county - Cork(Cluan O'Céileachair, Keller - which also makes me distantly related to the rulers and family Ormonde, which are related to the Kennedys - Ó Cinnéide). I guess it's nice to know where you're gonna be buried. I just hope it's not one o the trees that does it.

Looking down on maybe 1/4 of the estate from the foot of the Comeraghs where our estate starts towards Slieve Namon, where the Ormonde demesne is:

Beautiful. I’ve always wanted to see Ireland and Scotland. All four sides of my family were Scot Irish and moved to America in the late 1600s early 1700s.

Get your DNA done. You'll be surprised. Lol
@longleaf
I’d be afraid to do that Jeff lol. I might be married to my cousin. Most of the family tree is documented fairly well back to the first generation in America but I don’t know much going back to Europe. One side was the clan McLeod in Scotland which has a well known history.

LOL. Yessir. Even if you think you are 100%, your not. Someone, somewhere along the lines wayback met someone out of the bloodlines and had a child. [emoji4]
Yeah I know what your saying if you research 4 grandparents names that is a small fraction of the ancestors you have.

Lol. Yes. Same for me. Had much of family tree back to late 1400s.
Then doing my 23andme. I was very surprised to say the least. As was my wife. We primarily did it for our children. But, we were both quite surprised at the results. [emoji4]

My maternal grandmother was Scottish. [emoji106]

Here it is after I removed some of the ivy:

So nice! Just got back from a mini holiday in the UK. Couple days each in Edinburgh/Stirling, Welsh countryside, Salisbury, and London. So beautiful over there! Didn't make it to Ireland on this trip unfortunately, but I'll be back to visit your island. Is yours a working castle with modern residence? We got to see The Castles of Stirling, Edinburgh, Raglan, Carreg, Caerphilly, Coch, and Windsor. Also the Llanthony Priory, Tintern Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral. Some in ruins, some in part ruins, some maintained still functional. As a craftsman who is regularly trying to put major bandages on houses that are barely over twenty years old, it just amazes me the quality and pride of the craftsmanship they were able to create so many hundreds of years ago. You live in quite the special part of the world. Perhaps I'll be able to visit your little slice of it on my next trip across the pond.

If you go back 350 years or around 14 generations over 32000 people have contributed to you dna. I think at like 40 generations to number is beyond the world population which means many people are in there several times. It’s mind blowing if you think about the numbers too much.

Do it anyways. My mother is big into genealogy so we knew more than most already. Unfortunately once you get back so, there are either no records or unreliable records. German churches were remarkably good record keepers, but if a person had a child out of wedlock, all of a sudden they had a younger sibling and that's how the story was inscribed in history to save the family shame. So you never know what sort of DNA might have snuck in there. My brothers and I also saw the marriage record where a Hodgins married a Hodgins oh so long ago and we were mortified. Of course back then the gene pool was so thin, lots of cousins were marrying cousins... hopefully more distant than not lol.
