This is very small by comparison, but you had to be careful none the less.

The left leg of the split Red Maple was just hung up, but cutting the bottom see-sawed the tree to allow the top to be cut.

I roped the right side with the break so I was sure which way it would go. My rope winch comes in very handy it wooded areas like this that are not accessible by heavy equipment (not that I have any heavy equipment).

My Dr. Al ported 462 w/24" B+C got the call. That saw cut through the Red Maple and some Chestnut Oak fast as stink! I run 3/8 square file full comp on it.

@chiselbit while back we modified a bunch of steering connector nuts for soap box derby cars for a young man building the cars for their non profit group for autistic kids. Turns you yesterday was the race. It’s pretty flat around here except for the New River canyon. Down in the canyon in Brawley is Cattle Call arena and a park. This is Cattle Call Hill to access it. People run up and down it for exercise, etc.. Cattle call
is a big rodeo coming up. The committee had been pressuring my buddy to get those salt cedars removed beforehand, but no one offered help. His lot ends at the top of the slop to the side of the road. Lots of folks as such ‘round here don’t care for salt cedars.

Thanks David. That thing has “chain wrecker” written all over it. Just looks nasty to cut. I see the broom in action
Rotten, bee nest inside, rotten codoms falling off at me, uneven trunk, never a good place to dog, loose bark, nails. A little dressing/bark removal with a small saw and and an axe would have been worth it.

Dropped 3 mid-size (but tall) dead Ash trees today to make some firewood for my daughter (that is good to burn this year).

Luckily, all three were mostly pretty solid. Just used my ported 462s, when the chain on one dulled from the dead dry Ash I just broke out the other.

My two older grandsons helped with loading the trailer, stacking, and clean up.

That load is only one of the 3 trees, the two others still need to be transported.

I don't seem to have any trouble doing the work, but boy, I do get stiff afterwards!

Looks like a disaster waiting to happen if that monster starts rolling down that hill. Why is the hood up on the truck?
Everything was felled either behind stumps or straight down the slope the evening before. We had heck getting them down.
The hood is up running batt cables to the winch batt in the bed. Temporary setup until I put the winch back in the deuce or ‘95 dodge.

Nice! Your truck looks identical to my 2021. PS: As far as trees cut? I live in Utah. We have almost no options other than spruces, pines and aspens. The occasional juniper and cottonwood.

Homeowner said he didn’t mind if the railing to the deck got hit. Tree was leaning right where we wanted it to go so wasn’t worried about it. As it came off the stump and was settling on the branches, as they broke it started slow rolling over toward the railing. Settled right above it! Got lucky. 445552BE-ADD0-41DF-A4DB-F3E8EBE4C967.jpeg646E6DC1-18EE-461F-9857-B8DFCC584715.jpeg 177BE16E-D14D-47D9-BA23-BB1794AD2076.jpeg

Decent sized Red Oak I swung around to try and avoid a few save trees. Top busted a little but overall it was a success View attachment 355698
Looks different than red oak here. Different soil, climate, among other conditions must determine how they grow. Good picture!

What chain do u use?
I’m asking because of the new black tip
That particular tree was cut with skip chain, but usually I run Stihl full comp full chisel round. I think 33RS? I do a lot of bore cutting so typically go through a couple tips over the life of a bar
