I’ve got an old 4X4 Toyota. Fuggin love this thing. So 8 years ago I replaced the timing chain. 3 years ago I put a new head on her due to head gasket issues. Went with a new head with oversized valves. If you ever broke a timing chain in a 22re yeah the pistons hit the valves and make a mess

the head came from engnbldr a very well known reputable builder. Well the ol feller retired a few years ago so finding parts for this head has me at a stand still.

I’ve already got the full engine gasket set new rings new timing cover chain rod bearings mains. The whole works.

engnbldr used to offer the whole set of valves for around 70 bucks. No big deal. However. I can’t find the valves. Any help fellas,????

pictures to follow. Never did a build thread so bear with my lack of punctuation and all grammatical issues

The next problem is. A new head done the way I like is around 500 bucks. Without a cam. I’m considering replacing the cam. Not that I want to but she’s an ol lady. Should I throw a new cam in or just make sure the one I have is ok. A new cam is in the 150$ Range. I wasn’t really expecting this. So kinda another hidden expense. This is tax deductible. I’d love to find the valves because taking the head off is a pain in the ass but it’s pretty doable. All input welcome. Anyone know a valve shop.

No one in the great town of Here & Now knows where this retired head stud is currently at Jake?

Well I’ve tried the Toyota forums. Off-road guys usually keep tabs. Similar to saw builders. So far no luck. I know he was getting old. In his 80s now.

I like Toyota's. Kinda. We had a Gen1 Hilux Surf with an 18something. Slow, thirsty and weak....i digress.

Quick read turned up a connection link for your engnbldr to Redline Engine Builders, Albany Oregon.

Good luck.

A reputable shop that does heads should be able to source replacements either with the old valves in hand or with precise measurements.

I went through a similar experience years ago in a Nissan Hardbody pickup. I rebuilt the engine and had an older guy in Portland do the head.
He used non-original valves and springs. That motor ran great though.

I checked on the most trusted AM supplier of valves (Ferrea) and they had many options from the 22r/re engines at around $35 a valve.
I went to the website and didn’t see any? I’m probably not looking in the right place but no mention of 22re I’ve struck out everywhere else so far.

It’s funny @jacob j. mentioned a builder in Portland did the head on his truck. Very possible I used the same guy. He is from Oregon as well as the shop I’ve been talking to for my cam. I’ve got that guy working on finding me some valves to ship along with my cam. 22re make very little power but a new cam with a new rebuild sounds like a good idea.

I may be sourcing a new head if things don’t come together with these valves.

it’s going to become foolish to reuse the head if the valve price is going to be within 100$ of a new loaded head that I font have to do the work on.
My engine parts should be in today so I’m needing top end parts ASAP

I had an old 87 for 25 years. Sold it about 2 years ago. I put a timing chain in it once, real fun. It was so worn it rubbed a hole in the timing cover and let water get in the oil. It never broke or jumped time though.

All the old heads at the dealership said that Fram filters would starve the 22RE of oil. Don't know if that was just scuttlebutt or what. I suspect the more likely cause was neglect, since they would usually run great until they experienced the same thing that happened to yours. Do you still have the original head? If so, could it be refreshed?
