I think the trimmer with circular saw blade would be the ticket

@chiselbit
There are a couple of different options depending on how thick the brush is and what size trimmer you have too. I have one of the circular saw blades on my FS 91 and it works really good for stuff up to a thickness of a finger (at least that is what I have tried it on at my house).
Chain flail head, will smash 1" OD wild hazel and put a hurt on Your trimmer & shins.

My sister owns one with 2 chains, this is the nastiest trimmer "attachment" I have ever used!

We're eat up with Autumn Olive and multi-flora rose. Ended up getting a clearing saw for a hillside last year.
The toothed blade that comes with it will take out 3"-4" hardwoods if kept out of the rocks, and I found that a shredder blade will mow down up to 10' tall rose and thorn bushes by working the blade up and down. Definitely pricey, but an awesome piece of machinery. Need face shield and thicker clothes with the shredder blade, since no guard is involved. Prob not OSHA approved but works darn good.
