My wife called me saying she hears a cat fight from the bathroom window. I get there all I can hear is something exhaling hard. Hard enough that it’s sounds like it’s next to you but it’s a good 200’ away and through the brush. I got back as close as I could and it went silent after maybe another minute. I walked around with a thermal imaging camera but it’s so thick and the camera isn’t anything high end. It had to have a human sized chest cavity judging by how big the breaths were.

Any chance it’s a deer? They stomp and blow out through their nose if they’re puzzled by something in their surroundings.

I've not spent much time at the old house in the last few years.
Thus I'd forgoten about the deer doing that. Was Interesting how if you turned on a light, they tended to fade away, but when I walked outside with no lights on (not even a penlight), they'd do a little bit of the snort and maybe stamp.
Made me think that they were getting pretty used to the city folks and porch lights.

That’s what it sounded like after the other noise. No idea what the screaming or whatever was before that. They’ve gone after dogs already that got curious but I haven’t seen any real young deer around. The deer might have gone after whatever was making the other noise. She knows what foxes sound like and said it wasn’t that. I’ve heard noises here that I couldn’t figure out what was getting killed before.

Night times only. I'll sometimes sit outside when I can't get to sleep.
I occasionally hear a distant noise. Maybe most like the 6~7th cluck in the vid.
A little deeper hollow tone , but kinda like the tongue clucking in this vid.
Usually one group 4~5 times/clukc in a couple of seconds and then I don't hear it any more for the night.
Seems to usually come from the lower area around here, general direction of the creek. Maybe some frog or bird??
Can go months before I hear it again.

A family of coons can make quite a ruckus even if they’re fighting over the contents of a trash can. Mountain lion supposed to sound like a woman screaming.

Do you have any cougars there ( 4 legged)?
None have been seen up here. They get them on camera by the creek maybe ten miles away. Whatever it was I had to be within feet of it walking around and it never moved.

Fisher cats scream will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck if you've never heard them before !
