That is just the road, it is like a mtn goat path in places. (East Mtn Road, then turns into Esselbourne). Very steep, narrow, and curvy. Further down, a stream runs next to it. It ends on US Route 9, just a few miles South of Interstate Rte 84.
It is a beautiful mountainous area known as Fishkill Ridge, which runs into North & South Mt Beacon right before you reach the Hudson River. A lot of hiking trails near there, including the one up Breakneck Ridge, rated a top 10 in the nation. You won't climb it w/o using your hands, and if you take a dog there are places you have to push them up or lift them. It is so steep, they will slide down. You have to pull yourself up inside the crevices, which they can't do.
Granite from Breakneck Ridge was used to build West Point, the Brooklyn Bridge and the steps of the Capital Building in Albany.
