Howdy Studs,

Here's my slight issue:
I just picked up a nice 034 that runs strong yet I've got a couple things that need addressing.
1. Every time I tighten the chain by the tensioner screw---when I fire it up---the chain goes loose again. I can't keep it tight!
2. also, ze chain keeps spinning when I take the chain brake off(maybe sprocket)?

Easy fix?

Thanks

Reg
Sounds like one of the clutch spings might be wore out or broke and the clutch bearing smoked.

Much obliged MC!
BTW...its got the old school tensioner like this....
Can I swap it for the newer version that tightens yer chain between the bar studs?
I believe what I've got is stripped...chain keeps coming loose after firing it up...

Do you pull the chain around the bar by hand a few times after tightening the nuts down? Also if rim or drum sprocket is warm it can cause the chain to go loose/tight/loose as it gos around the bar. Chain moving at idle could be anything from to high and idles speed because of carb adjustment, LA screw being set to high, minor air leak leaning mixture or weak/broken clutch springs.
Mighty good counsel...much obliged.
Checking into it now

How does this look? Pulled it out of a 362 I had been having a hard time with until a couple members set me straight on tuning in the cut.

Can you post a picture of your crankcase in the bar pad area? It depends on which crankcase as to whether you can convert to the side-access tensioner.

Jacob, I most certainly would, except I have sent it sailing to Stump Shots Shop fer some repairs and modding.
I got my hands full tending to my 91 yr old Pa currently...
I appreciate the feedback though!

I've been giving my MS-250 a lot of exercise lately. I can see why it has so many fans and Stihl keeps making it. The only mods I've done are the HO oil pump and muff mod by prying open the fishgill outlets. She is fairly light and compact, and pulls really well in 10-12" hardwood. Good saw to bring along if travelling light and only taking one saw.

Those are excellent reliable little saws that fit perfectly between a 180 and a 261. Have you thought about advancing the timing? It should give it a little boost like the muffler mod gave it.
