My first rebuild was an 026 with a roached top end given to me by a neighbor many years ago. A little reading online led me straight to the notorious f/w side seal as the likely culprit..., and my first homebrew seal puller experience. Piece o' cake.

I thought you might find this interesting.

Obviously not first year with that serial number, I do believe that its original to the saw since it was completely fused with year of crude around the cylinder bolts.
046 D-chamber , so maybe they had a few left over from the 130s serials?

Whatever the purpose, it's a nice clean job meticulously done! (Looks like that front bar stud situation coulda used some too.)

Out of curiosity, did you pull the pump to see what was going on underneath?

I did pull the pump, the top screw was stripped out at some point, so someone jammed a slightly larger screw in the hole ? Maybe the rtv was to make sure that the oil pump didn't wiggle loose.
Btw whats the oil pump screw size 4mm by what thread pitch?

Actually 0.7..., stupid keyboard.

E-Z Coil.jpg

I took a chance on one of these kits years ago and haven't looked back. Wouldn't trust the bits or taps to last long in hard steel, but for soft metal / material applications you can't beat it. Perfect for saw stuff including most of the plastics used..., even those pesky Husky intake bulkheads that always seem to strip themselves out..., (stupid bulkheads). I stop at plug threads, though. I use a Heli-Coil Save-a-Thread kit for those. The only problem with this kit is it stops at 5mm. The E-Z Coil (E-Z Lok) is a decent kit to fill the 4mm need. Note that they come with different length inserts per kit, so order accordingly.

This is from an 036 ipl for the oil pump , I'm assuming that its pretty close to same for all the small screws?

@PogoInTheWoods
Here's an MS440 I'm tearing down ( oil pump rtv) . Its a 10mm with flippy caps? I wasn't sure there was such a beast?
Is this a factory p/c or was it replaced by someone?
Everything is evenly filthly and seems unmolested ( except for the oil pump) which doesn't say that the previous owner would be swapping parts.20230402_162404.jpg20230402_162353.jpg20230402_162701.jpg20230402_162435.jpg20230305_163000.jpg

Serial doesn't come up in SSC and probably pre-dates digital records..., as would an early 044. Some IPL and T.I. digging for serial number references would likely reveal a10mm 044 wearing a MS440 tank/handle.

A real fast check indicates x29583701 was the serial number cut-off point for the 10mm 1128s.

Maybe someone else will chime in to confirm?
