What kind of muffler is it on the 114? The front looks like US-spec but there is also a side pipe which seems to have stronger
wall thickness than usual.
It’s the stock muffler with a 3/4 inch elbow brazed in place

Does anyone know if there is any AM companies manufacturing 5200i pistons and cylinders? I just acquired a 1998 model and I think the cylinder can be saved but not the piston. If anyone actually makes an AM closed port I'll be surprised but it's worth a try.

There are only open port aftermarket cylinders.

Sometimes a Nos closed port pops up.
Same with pistons. Am from various suppliers and sometimes oem.

That's kind of what I figured. My cylinder can be saved I think. My piston is pretty crispy but I can possibly sand it gradually back to usable and file the ring groove back into shape. Really sucks the AM didn't produce the closed port variation.
Was it the 111i or 115i that was closed port?? I remember one of the two was if I recall correctly.

I might have a cylinder for you if yours is junk. What size is the bore? I was curious how close a Husqvarna 350 piston would be
they are 44 and 45mm and 10mm pin and don't have windows

Funny you should say that. I brought two saws home the other day. The Makita 5200i and a husky 350xp I'm planning to put a 346xp top end on. I should have the 350xp tore down this evening.

The 115 is closed port. 0.4 hp more than 111 open port.

I've got 3 Dolmar 115i in my shop right now and every single one of them are open port. The one I have that's closed port that I've been referring to as a 5200i is actually tagged as a 1996-1998 Makita DCS-520. It doesn't even have the "I" carb setup on it. I get the strangest setups through here.
Were the later 115i saws open port or something? All of these saw all have OEM top ends on them.
I've also got a Dolmar 520i that's got the injector choke carb but it also has an OEM open port top end on it.

I recall reding someones comment that Makita began to cut costs and started selling the same P&C kits for the semi pro (aluminium cases, open port cylinders) and pro (magnesium cases, closed port cylinders) units.
If that is true, logic dictates they sold the cheaper open port cylinder as a replacement for both unit styles.

My best guess would be those saws are not factory original and just got fixed what was sold as a OEM replacement.
