Hummmm tricky one as personal taste is involved as to what you find ok....response is what you would expect from open.. V.. closed trans port 50cc class saws. There the older 2 port closed sort in the 115..52cc (110 closed port as well ) and therefor you dont get the same "Style" delivery as a Quad port with small uppers like a 346xp Ne or a 5105 dolmar...The 111..52cc (109..43cc) has a fraction less snap being old sort open port. Having said that Tor.....the 115 and the 110 have much in common with the 242 and the 254 in there power and performance ...In the cut they pull hard under load around the 9000,10000 rpm (standard saw) with the 115 running 3/8 as standard and the 110 on .325 with a 8 pin rim. The 110 is on a 8 because the clutch drum is of the bigger sprocket drive size and 7 pin "normally' isn't a option. The 110 has high chain speed due to this for softwood de limbing , making it useful for this task. Some of this is fact and some is my opinion of corse but "ALL" are far from "Slugs" ..imo....you just need to try some for your self Tor and make out how they feel to you:)
Funny you should mention the closed vs open. A little birdy flew me a package from out east with a NOS closed port 115/520 cylinder. Not sure what model it originally came on but I have been looking for a closed port top end in the last 20-30x 111/115/520/540 saws that have passed through the shop or looked at during picking. I'm pretty pumped and am thinking about a little port work after running one stock. Since I have 5-6 of these I'll be able to see how closed vs open cylinder performs stock. That may determine whether I do any port work on it. I just have to find all the best of the best parts to put one together...

had I known this cylinder was going to show up I would have spent more time looking through Steve and Scotts NOS supply of parts for this series...

PS: thanks Steve and/or Scott!!!!

Iv been wondering this for a while...are we all getting the "Same " Dolmar Ps 5105 ? Take a look at the two pics and see what you think . One is a 2015 (late) saw from Hamburg imported from Germany unto the UK , I know this as its mine :D. What do "your " saws look like ?

I am not very good at these I spy games but, I see that one is missing bucking spike's (obviously) one appears to have a boss in the cylinder for? Possibly the decomp. that should have been on this saw. One appears to have more of a matte finish but that could be photo or use. So I give up what's different about them? Will have to get my EA5000 and compare..

Yes the cylinders are different... One is better than the other but which one..??

Makita rep told me the 5105 and the 510 will both come with a magnesium case soon.

ElmDown_3.jpg My 5105 was made in Hamburg, 2011-12. It has the decomp boss and outside dawg like the top saw, and the bucking sight line on the sprocket cover like the bottom saw. The colour is more like the top saw, but that could be in the photo processing, chemical or electronic.

Il start off with what I am really interested in so we all dont go round and round in circled. Its the cylinder...I would like to know if the cylinder with the de comp blank is common on the saws you all have...Its not here. Now i "think " i have seen it on the 5100 with the non cat muffler but not on any 5105 saws bought as a "Direct" import from Germany to the UK . 2015 is as far back as iv seen . Andrew ... @ajschainsaws ????
There are other small differences from Ero spec saws to USA saws iv noticed.
Big dogs ..You boys like your bigger double dawgs
USA/other saws have a sticker saying that the saw is rated as 20 in ..We dont have that and the saw is rated as a 18 in bar max and supplied with 15in .325 standard.
No carb limiters....
Please don't read to much into colour...thats down to the pictures.

Yea...I replied before i saw your edit Nathan. You mean the 5105 Isnt mag case ..Already ?...i thought it was ! So this question is even more relevant as to if the Ero saws are different .

Horray 5105 !!:D
Sorry DJ ...
Don't be sorry, I just want to confirm what I think I have, you have me questioning my entire existence. I guess the question is 3.3hp or 3.9 ? What I have is a EA5000P53G 20" 3/8 with bucking spike's like in the top picture but don't have the boss for decomp , says made in Germany 2015 I believe. I have probably only ran 6-8 tank's thru it and am looking forward to having it ported. I believe it has the most to gain of any of my saws due to the fact that it feels fairly choked.

I think the EA 5000 ...is supposed to be the 5105 equivalent but the Makita saws are not that familiar to me, the differences in 5105 here and in other markets intrigues me.
I feel the 5105 is best on .325 narrow kerf (1.3mm .50) or standard 1.5mm chain and 7 pin rim and a 15" bar...makes it only 14 lb in weight on the narrow kerf . You may find the saw feels very much more lively if you get shot of the 20 " and 3/8 chain that has a higher gearing on the sprocket diameter.

Yes, they are identical saws with the exception of bar and pitch choices . What you know as a5105 in blue is an EA5000P53G, now that they are all one color mine with 20" 3/8 is a EA5000 PRGG , WITH 18" 3/8 is EA5000PREG your configuration would be EA5000PREL with 16" .325. I was just concerned because of my lack of decomp boss I thought you were saying that that was the 3.3hp 5121 !
As far as the 20" bar it pulls it with authority, even with the bar buried in hardwood.
My comment about it being choked up is based on the cat muffler, and just knowing that there is quite a bit more waiting to be released. But I am interested in getting a 16-18" lightweight bar, never thought about changing pitch but you never know.....
So just to be clear your 5105 doesn't have the decomp boss? Thanks,. Matt.....

I dont think the difference in the saws puts one of them in the open port 3.3 hp Dolmar 501 ..5121 bracket . I have a theory ...only a theory mind you. Now sit down Matt :).....the cylinder on My saw is "NOT" the one with the de comp boss. I think the de comp boss was seen on the 5000.. 5100 (closed port) cylinders . The ps 5105 saws seem to ( Euro ones anyhow ) have a different casting that has no de comp boss. I figure those who have the 5105 can say what they have and this may shed some light on this anomaly .
This is the combo i use ...1.3mm .50 .325

Actually I think after further research that none of the 5105's have that boss , the current ones anyway. I just misunderstood your original post and thought that the top saw was yours, hence my panic due to the different cylinders, but we both apparently have the 3.9 5105/EA5000 so all is good in the world once again.....
Now to get this thing opened up,so it can breathe... :-)

Thats my understanding to...but...you will find plenty pics and vids of 5105 saws with the de comp casting boss . Its sure odd .
I have un-crimped the muffler on my 5105 to take out the cat and enlarge the exit...less heat and more crackle for sure.

Only variable between current production PS-5105/EA5000 is:

Carb adjustment screws
Muffler (Cat or Standard)
Spike bars - Dual large spikes are generally used with the Cat muffler.
Non Cat being a European offering only?
And I was looking (glanced) at a 6401 IPL today if I didn't completely misunderstand it it appeared the carb adjustment screws were removable? If so is that the case with EA5000 and 7910 can the adj. screws be replaced with standard slotted screws?
