Tor you should try the 115 great production saw that design is over thirty years old now and still in production going strong 12 models share this chassis

In the mid 90's to the millennium was it's glory years hard too beat
I've had several 115's since 1993 and would never be without one
there's one I want for my collection 115IH maybe one day
I passed over the amount Huskies I want/need, Dolmar is actually the brand I can see myself get later :)
Time for me to read through the whole thread :D

I'm thinking that this crack under the welch plug is causing the motor to run fine for about 5 seconds in the cut, and then going stupid rich.

Looking for ideas? or a carb to get it going.

Primative solution, but how about a dob of jb weld or similar product if you cant find a kit.

Is the 115 the same as a 520i ?

rubber AV, other then vibes they dont like fuel&oil :D
Those 50cc Dolmars, how is their trottle respond compared to Huskies Simon?

Oh, the saw to the left is Stihl 021.
Hummmm tricky one as personal taste is involved as to what you find ok....response is what you would expect from open.. V.. closed trans port 50cc class saws. There the older 2 port closed sort in the 115..52cc (110 closed port as well ) and therefor you dont get the same "Style" delivery as a Quad port with small uppers like a 346xp Ne or a 5105 dolmar...The 111..52cc (109..43cc) has a fraction less snap being old sort open port. Having said that Tor.....the 115 and the 110 have much in common with the 242 and the 254 in there power and performance ...In the cut they pull hard under load around the 9000,10000 rpm (standard saw) with the 115 running 3/8 as standard and the 110 on .325 with a 8 pin rim. The 110 is on a 8 because the clutch drum is of the bigger sprocket drive size and 7 pin "normally' isn't a option. The 110 has high chain speed due to this for softwood de limbing , making it useful for this task. Some of this is fact and some is my opinion of corse but "ALL" are far from "Slugs" ..imo....you just need to try some for your self Tor and make out how they feel to you:)

Well put Simon Dolmar seem too follow a pattern in the 40cc too 60cc class
Several different spec saws so this 115 family most parts are interchangeable
The only two models which cylinder and pistons are unavailable is the
Ps-540 and dcs-540 which are 45mm

That is what I am going to try tonight. I'm not out anything, as it doesn't run properly the way it is.

Super glue or clear nail polish in several thin layers will seal the crack. $1 fix for the win!

The 111/115/520/540 is one of the most underrated 50cc saws. People don't know the dolmar name as well as Stihl and Husky so they tend to sell for less. There are several parts that are getting harder to find in the states but usually plenty of parts saws laying about for help.

Want to point out that 520 and 115 are both listed at 52cc and both at 44mm bores but the 115 somehow is listed with a 34mm stroke and the 520 with 32mm stroke. Was grabbing that from Acresinternet so maybe they have a typo. In the 2 dozen 115/520 saws I've seen, I have yet to find a closed port 52cc top end. I run mine with a TSB 18" 3/8 050 b&c. I have 7-9 of this series in the shop for loaning to friends and family and parts. Great saws to pick up at $125 or less and can sometimes be found for $25-$50 as parts.

I dont know if the UK spec is different from USA but here the 520 is open port as it is the dolmar 111 saw and the 115 (makita 5200) is the same 52 cc but is the closed port saw.

I have a DCS 540 it was the first Makita that I owned bought new in the late 90's, it's what started the addiction! Very impressive for a stock 54cc saw. I always thought that the 115 was 54cc also, mainly due to the fact that some of the parts interchange, like the coil for instance is listed for both. But I guess I learnt sumthin new today! I am glad you guys brought up these saws it reminded me that I need to order that coil....

Cheers guys and thanks for the welcome. Dolmars are suddenly becoming more popular in Australia as the prices of big Stihls kep going through the roof here. Obviously the 166 is the one people want but there is increasing interest in 153, 143 and 133 Supers. Its just a pity that parts are not a little bit easier as they are still realistic working saws.
Good appreciation for the modern stuff as well. As I have a 143 I am happy to keep the 6400 pretty stock.17361500_713926718787645_1464687338805097194_n.jpg

How do the 6400 and the 120 compare performance wise? I have a 6401 but have recently seen quite a few nice 120's on the market.

6400 is lighter, has better antivibe and revs quicker, but the 120si blows its doors off for torque and general ruggedness. Its heavier though and you struggle with parts. Its a great saw though in so many ways. I think a good 120si will go toe to tow with a 7300.

Had this from eBay a few weeks ago buyer said it pulls over but won't start and couldn't see exactly which model it was from the poor photos
But anyway got it back and it's a 114 and just as I thought no spark typical fault with this model so straight in and swap out the trigger unit drain the tank , put on a new bar and chain little tweet up with the screwdriver and a smooth running 50cc saw this model is not a saw too be overlooked they run strong not too heavy

IMG_3587.JPG

But I've put it on eBay it will go towards the cs-1201 fund
