As it is, there are only very few reports from people who have used the 550.
Most seem to be pretty content with it, some people (who I think haven't actually
used the saw) complain the heavy weight and compare the saw against Stihl 362 and Husky 560,
which are IMHO intended for a totally different audience than the Dolmar.

Having the Dolmar compared with its competitors in the semi-professional/farmer market (e.g. Stihl 291, 311 or Husky 455), it looks even if not better than its competitors.

So that's what I have found on the topic so far. The new Stihl MS-500i generates much more traffic on motorsaegen-portal.de!

Thanks @old_sir_henry

Today in my post box:

View attachment 162395

A NOS bag of tools for my Dolmar 118 with unused contents and especially important: the spike bar which was missing from my saw.
There must be another bag like that lying around somewhere, because my 118 is missing that spike bar too! :)
Super nice find for you!

My friendly dealer. Sent them along as I was undecided what I wanted it to say. Took it on a job this morning with the makita decals, and the guy I am working for says I didn't know makita made chainsaws. Hope this saw lives up to all the positive things I have heard about them. Unlike the legendary 661

You're supposed to relabel Dolmar's to Makita.

Very cool. Wonder if for a brief time Makita was planning to keep the Dolmar name but repaint everything blue?

Seems you're on the right trail with your assumption

Just learned that the teal colored Dolmar saws were not sold regularly but rather given to dealers to test customer reaction regarding the color.

I‘ve learned that from a Makita-service-staff guy I know

I wonder if they determined that teal didn't work for Makita branded saws either? I'll always associate the Makita brand and teal color with electric power tools that have nothing to do with cutting trees.

Once again, you don't seem to be far off the road
