What size bar do you guys think is best for a Makita 520i which is the sibling to Dolmar 111i I believe? It is set up for 3/8 not .325. I am debating between 16/18/20 leaning towards the 18".

If you have the saw running on a rim drive then the saw will perform better if you change over to .325 1.3mm chain on a 15" lite bar for the most neutral balance. The saw is short in the body so it will get nose heavy easily. If it has to be 3/8 , then 15" still best option IMO.

Andrew . What do you think the logic was in these saws coming set up with 3/8 chain? . Most of the 109-111 iv bought came that way along with most 115. I know there was more than one choice from factory .

Don’t know Simon it doesn’t feel right at all totally nose heavy
Thing is they where cheaper with the 15” 3/8 but I’ve had loads of these bars over the years nobody wants them over here, there where loads of options offfered over there 30+yr production run 15” 18”
only good thing is put that 15” 3/8 On a 6100 with a 8-pin rim and have a bit of fun

should i get a 7 or 8 tooth rim for .325 on the 520i? The oregon ones say their rim will only work if you buy the oregon sprocket to that is annoying.

I run a 7 pin with 18 .325 on mine mostly for reach. And that Oregon only crap is bs. When I got mine it had an Oregon 7t 3/8s and now it has a 7t325 Chinese from HLS.

Just be sure to buy the muktipack chinese rim sprockets. You'll need them.
Nothing wrong with the Oregon rim sprockets. They are standard size.

But mine is a DOLMAR:

Just to prove it's a real Dolmar and not a Makita with Dolmar decals:

Oil line was broken. Year of manufacturing: 1993.

Below is what they sell as replacement for the NLA oil hose: PS-32 fuel line. It doens't even look similar but it can be made to fit:

For the suction line I found some NOS part
