Feel like I'm not hitting on all fours myself sometimes.

These are more to my liking. I just cant take that weight of the older series.
Found one and bought it just for the full wrap. Should be here soon.

Now I can put the full wrap and big dawg set on the 505 that is taking over the work for the full wrap 385 I sold.

j2083 just to show the big dawgs. Sold 1 set but kept one set just in case.

Full wrap 415 showed up today. No time to dig in. But looks like low usage for fire dept saw.

Crap chain and wrong bar mount = D176. But hey they were close.

They had ground down the big dawg almost to the case due to bolting to the full wrap. Handel in great shape and all I cared about. 1990 and with older air filter and tank set up.

Lucked up and got me a 5400 today. I’ve had several of the in various states, but never a complete runner. Glad to get this one for sure. Had some good help picking it up for me.

I really appreciate you letting me have the mostly complete parts saw that came with it. Can't believe they were both right up the road and I never seen them lol

bought a Craftsman 3.4, equivalent to Poulan 3400, and trying to rebuild it. compression 120 psi. took jug off for measurements:
measured ring gap - 0.101"
ring pin width - 0.060"
per my calculations the ring gap for 1.8025" measured cylinder should be between : 1.8025"*0.004+0.060" (0.0672") and 1.8025"*0.008+0.060" (0.0744")
ordered rings from Greece and measured ring gap. It is 0.101”. am I missing something or are these rings too small? is this gap acceptable? is this the standard gap for the 3400?
help greatly appreciated.

I think all the ring gaps I've seen on chainsaws are a little on the conservative side. I wouldn't worry about the gap you have. 120 - 125 psi is normal for a 3400. It should run well at that compression.

Squish on that series is typically over 0.040".

Thanks tim. Just seems a shame to live with that compression when rings with smaller gap would boost it some. Is there some reason theyre designed for relatively low compression? Gear box an issue with higher compression?
Where could one order rings with a smaller gap? Or even ones that have to be custom fitted
I am planning to delete gasket for little more compression

Doing fine with 120psi. Base gasket delete will bring it up some.

Probably just the nature of the beast I imagine. They banged alot of those saws out. I have a Poulan pro 375 aka 3700 iirc and I'd like to send it off to a porter just to see how hard she could chooch.

On the rings, the only thing I could suggest is contacting DLS and asking if he has anything you could file yourself.

Lots of guys delete the base gasket.

I suspect the compression may be kept low to decrease wear and tear on the bottom end.
