These 261 have about the best filtration I've seen. And.....the filter was good. Nice soft rubber seal.
I should have said improperly fastened instead of faulty because that's what I was thinking. I was basing this private detective work on the grime and crud all over the crank itself.

Maybe it's just my simple mind, but any time I see a smoked lower rod bearing on a low hour saw, I can't help but call mix oil and ratio into question. In my mind, the lower rod bearing is probably the hardest working bearing in the engine and likely the first to fail if lube is compromised in some way either by quality or quantity
