I have spent the last 13yrs operating a grader doing snow removal, and have done lots of 40-50 hr swings with no sleep. My "worst" one was about 110 hrs with only 2 naps of about 2hrs each. Only getting out of my blade to fuel, eat, or piss.. that one really sucked!! I was in full on zombie mode and honestly only remember the first couple days. But when it starts snowing, we work til it stops...

Well y'all ain't no fun to party with. lol

Could be, Skipper was pretty strict. We were not allowed to drink until the last bit of work was finished. We were however top boat for catch in that area. So we had more money to play with when we were done for the year. Hit Anchorage and played hard before moving on.
Tell ya straight up, there were plenty of boats on cocaine and whatnot to work through it. Not only did they not catch as many fish, at the end of the season they looked like zombies. We would see them still fishing after the fish were all gone. Unable to go to sleep if they wanted to.
One thing the Skipper said that I always remembered, "There's plenty of dope going around, may I suggest that before you go and try some, think about what you're going to do if you like it". After seeing multiple times guys that lost everything cause of it, I decided that maybe I was better off heading his warning.

28 hours when I was young, spray painted a boat tank that they use to trim the balance with, doesnt sound so bad if it wasnt because those type tanks is a pyramide with small pockets and lots of manhole to crawl through. Those 28 hours was on my knees.

28 hrs on your knees?? Talk about a job that sucks! Baaahahaha!!

I did that for quite a few years, but we always got a little sleep. Usually pull the plows at 9-10 pm here and go back out at 2 or 3 depending on conditions. Can't imagine 40 or 50 straight

Just shy of five days....about 110 hours straight...in the sandbox on the other side of the planet.

I was a young Jarhead in Iraq and Kuwait...more so full of anger and aggression than anything else that drove me...like nitrous oxide in me, it fueled me to go back 'out'. I lied to my Staff NCOIC's about my patrols...to get more. It caught up with me...my Sgt Major and my Battalion Commander reamed me pretty bad when I had to stand in front of both...they both asked me why I tried to 'cook the books' on my patrol time...I simply told 'em both...'we ain't here to shake no hands, kiss no babies...lets gets this *f-wording job done, and let's go home, Sir'. They both looked at each other, dismissed me me from the tent, called me back in about 5 mins later, Sgt Major smiled a little, and told me to 'get the *f-word out from in front of them, and fight on.'

I don't guess or think they ever heard a response like that.

Be thankful that you learned your lesson, a lot of guys didn't. Can't imagine what they're like now. Some I know are dead from it. Makes ya wonder if all the wreakage was worth it.

I discovered that I could live my life according to spiritual principles, and never use again.

Narcotics Anonymous has a message for the still suffering addict.

The message is that an addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use, and find a new way to live.

Our message is hope and the promise of freedom.”

I have worked insane hours in my lifetime, none fueled by substances thankfully. I have found that you can keep going strong as long as you don't stop. Once you decide to take a break, it will usually be over soon unless you can catch your fifth wind fairly quickly...
