Here’s a few of my recent outdoor pictures. I work in the woods chasing loggers around and then come home and play on my bandmill/cut a few logs to feed it for relaxation.

In addition to my acres of privately-owned Alaska birch for firewood sales and flooring/trailer-deck boards, Ive added a state of Alaska timber sale for spruce saw logs.

I paid it off in full this summer. State extended my contract out to 2 years, at no charge. Really thoughtful, patriotic guys, them interior AK foresters. I had concerns that during days of fatigue I wouldn't be able to finish er off in one year, single handedly. So they really helped a disabled combat veteran get his foot in the door at a fair price. They'll even allow me to extend my acreage on the 2 year contract, if I run outta wood

After walking my entire timbersale boundary, I lost track of my count of 120+ foot white spruce. Couldn't sleep last night shopping for 16-18 ft log-loader trailers. Saw at least a dozen ruffed grouse out there on the timber sale, in the spruce sappling thickets

Dream come true. My whole homestead is an off-grid logging camp way out of town. I dont ever have to travel for work again.

But so much to do! I gotta clear cut a 2 acres of birch for a log-landing yard on my private property and have the dozer operator flatten it out.

Was the blade made for Paper mills? HOW Thick is the plate and big was the collar and size of the mandrel hole?

Still testing Blackbird next job i m coupling it with a nice Yale Calamine and will put it at "low friction" setting for double rope work. Gotta get used of the trigger to make it nimble

Got some news for the American Arborists audience

Regarding the new device Art Blackbird which is mostly back ordered and deliveries placed sometime in 2026

Well the conditions I work day in day out are more like Vietnam due to variety of Trees.
Mostly our Mediterranean pine which is 100% full of resins so in removals where you stay long (few hours) in the tree for branch and wood ripping the rope and mechanical ascenders usually give up

All of them, worse being the stupid Zigzag which not only blocks but aint midline attachable so you're doomed to change rope and mechanism while "locked" somewhere in the tree.

Same happened though I admit that I was for more then 4 hours at my Art Blackbird, this time i had it on cambium saver MRS
If you don't know terms just Double rope

So had my Ascender and rope blocked simultaneously with my lanyard which i also use Art positioner mechanism
I was at the top of the pine,the leaning top over the house roof, blocked from both tying points with some air blowing. Not the best way to enjoy your day.

Had to change everything to finish work.

Anyway after that using some videos from my GoPro and my iPhone (same videos i cannot post here due to YouTube regulations) I contacted through Instagram with the manufacturer

German manufacturer ART already had used pics and videos of mine for his stories advertising the product in action

So their reply to the video is that they are UPDATING THE MANUAL to add not to be used at resin trees

I don't think any device is going to do well with evergreen resin. At least non that i have used. Do you like the blackbird otherwise? I am using a spiderjack 2.1 dyneema

Until now which i still consider a T&E period, once you get used of the trigger and mechanics of the mechanism YES cause in ideal conditions (fresh rope, clean tree) it is the smoothest device and precise to the centimetre (call it inch on your side) when others release more or less than they should

And DONT FORGET, it can be midline attachable (takes time) it's not midline attachable like Akimbo or Rope Runner

If things go south you aint taking it off your rope anytime soon

Some decent sized girls came out of this patch if the weather wasn't going to change it'd be time to finish the patch off they're aging themselves out.
