I took those (or rather the plastic cap encased ones) apart and made much bigger "firecrackers", also used them to reload firing caps for 12 & 16 gauge munition.
The stuff is very corrosive to metal and fairly volatile - burned my hands numerous times.

Pyrotechnics, I am glad I got out of it.

So, I must be over 50, I guess ... maybe over 60?

Wish I had a dollar for every roll I went through as a lad. I fired them, and smashed them
till I had to go back to town to get some more. As a side note -- I actually loved the smell.

Some smells take you right back. My dad ean a body shop when i was young. Every time i open a can i think about pushing the broom around as a kid on summer break. And the smell of cutting oil in a machine shop. Spent a good bit of time with my uncle at the small place he worked. Good times.

somewhere around my place I think I still have a revolver that used a paper cap and fired a #12 lead ball. Likely got it back in the 60's. I know I still had it 3 years ago but may have tossed it when I moved back then.
